South Korea: Hwaseong Fortress

This is the 100th post in my blog! Thank You all of you for sending me all this nice postcards and covers with so many nice stamps!

On Monday I got a postcard from India and my first five postcards from South Korea.

South Korea (officially: Republic of Korea) is a country in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula bordering on North Korea. South Korea is a member of the UN and of the OECD. The capital of South Korea is Seoul.

One of the cards shows the North-East Pavilion called Banghwasuryujeong in the Hwaseong Fortress. It is above the pond Yongyeon being surrounded by a small garden.
The Hwaseong Fortress is the centre of Suwon (the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do). The Fortress in surrounded by walls and it was built in the end of the 18th century at the behest of King Jeongjo (1752-1800). It was damaged in the Korean War and after the restoration it was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

With great stamp:
Year of the Snake (from set of two) (issued 03-12-2012)
(the stamp glows in the dark)

Thank You Joony for all the cards and the FDCs!!
