Serbia: Belgrade

On Friday I got three postcards: one from Serbia, one from Ukraine and one from Germany.

The card from Serbia shows an aerial view of Belgrade. Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. During the Cold War it was an important political centre, as it was the meeting place of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Belgrade was attacked for the first time short after the beginning of World War I. The city, which was bravely defended by Serbian troops and the city's inhabitants, was finally captured by Austro-Hungarian and German troops in October 1915. After the war Belgrade became the capital of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
