On Saturday I visited the former Aegidius Abbey in Braunschweig.
The Aegidius Abbey was a Benedictine abbey founded in 1115. After the Reformation it was used as Protestant women's convent, military depot and prison. Since 1902 it houses a branch of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum, which is today home to the Jewish Museum and an exhibition about life in a monastery. The Jewish Museum shows one of the most important Judaica collections in Germany, including the complete interior of the Hornburg Synagogue.
The two postcards I bought show the exterior of the Aegidius Abbey and the cupola of the Hornburg Synagogue from the collection of the Jewish Museum.
