Australia: Lance Corporal Albert Jacka

On Tuesday I got four postcards: one from Australia, one from Austria, one from the United Arab Emirates and one from Kazakhstan.

The card from Australia shows Lance Corporal Albert Jacka. Albert Jacka was born in 1893. He fought during World War I in the Battle of Gallipoli and on the Western Front and in 1915 he became the first Australian to be decorated with the Victoria Cross. When he returned to Australia, he founded a business and became the mayor of the City of St Kilda in 1930. He died in 1932.

The card is a maxicard. The stamp is from a set of five and was issued on 14th April 2015 to commemorate the World War I Centenary.

The card is prepaid.

Thank You very much Sharon!
