My Trip to Antwerp

On Sunday I was in Antwerp and there I bought some cards for my collection.

Antwerp is the largest city of Belgium and the capital of the Antwerp Province. The Port of Antwerp is one of the biggest in the World. It is known as Diamond Capital and is one of the most multicultural cities in World. In 1920 Antwerp hosted the Summer Olympics.

The Plantin-Moretus Museum is housed in the printing plant and publishing house of Christophe Plantin, the greatest printer-publisher of the second half of the 16th century. It is the only surviving printing plant from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and is closely associated with the history of the spread of typography. The museum was established in 1876 and is especially known for the oldest printing presses in the World, the collection of sorts and its extensive library. In 2005 the Plantin-Moretus House-Workshops-Museum Complex was the first museum to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Business Archives of the Officina Plantiniana are since 2001 a part of the Memory of the World Programme of the UNESCO.

The Grote Markt is a town square situated in the heart of the old city. It is home to the Stadhuis, many elaborate guildhalls and the famous Brabo Fountain.

The Stadhuis is the town hall of Antwerp. It was built between 1561 and 1565 in the Renaissance style to reflect the prosperity of the city and had a big influence on other town hall in Northern Europe. As one of the Belfries of Belgium and France it is since 1999 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Cathedral of Our Lady was built between 1352 and 1521. It is the see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Antwerp. As one of the Belfries of Belgium and France it is since 1999 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
