Thailand: Maxicards

Last Monday I got three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape.

The first card shows the Flag of Thailand. The Flag of Thailand was adopted in 1917. It consists of five horizontal stripes in red, white, blue, white and red. Red is said to stand for the land and people of Thailand, white for religion and blue for the monarchy. As Thailand declared war on Germany in July 1917, some note that the flag bores the same colours as those of France, Russia, Serbia, the United Kingdom and the USA.

Thailand, back then known as Siam, joined World War I on 22nd July 1917 alongside the Triple Entente. It is possibly one of the least well-known participants in World War I. An Expeditionary Force was sent to France to fight on the Western Front and began operations in the middle of September 1918. Siam was the only state in Southeast Asia to enter the conflict entirely of its own free will as an equal of the European powers. During the war 19 soldiers of Siam died. After the war Siam became a founding member of the League of Nations.

The stamp was issued on 28th September 2017 to commemorate the Centenary of the Flag of Thailand. 

The second card is about World Post Day. The stamp was issued on 5th October 2017.

The third card shows the same Thai Pavillion as Thailand's new definitive stamps that were issued on 14th August 2017. On the card are two of the nine new definitives.
