Last Thursday I got not only three postcards but also two covers including one from the United Kingdom.

Stamps:

Centenary of World War I (from set of six) (issued 28-07-2014)

Inside were four postcards: three from the United Kingdom and one from the USA.

The first British card is from the National Gallery in London. The National Gallery was founded in 1824 when the British government bought its first 38 paintings. Today the collection includes important works which represent the most major developments in Western painting. It is one of the most visited art museums in the World.

The second British card shows a painting from the collection of the Imperial War Museum. The Imperial War Museum was established in 1917 to record the civil and military war effort and sacrifice of Britain and its Empire during World War I, but later it was expanded to include all conflicts in which British or Commonwealth forces have been involved since 1914. Today the museum has three branches in London and two in other parts of the country. The painting on the card is shown on the HMS Belfast in London, which is a branch of the museum since 1978.

The third British card is from the National Railway Museum in York. The National Railway Museum is a museum about the history of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society. It was opened in 1975 and in 2001 it got the European Museum of the Year Award.

The card from the USA shows the Southfork Ranch near Dallas. The Southfork Ranch was built in 1970 by Joe Duncan and was originally known as Duncan Acres. The ranch is famous around the World as filming location for the TV series Dallas.
