On 29th September I got two postcards: one from Germany and one from Japan.
The card from Germany shows the Wittlich Synagogue. The Wittlich Synagogue was built between 1909 and 1910 in a mixture of art nouveau and neo-romanticism. During the November Pogroms of 1938 the interior of the synagogue was destroyed, but the building itself survived and was later used as a prisoner of war camp. One third of Wittlich's Jewish population was murdered in the concentration camps and after the war none of the survivors returned to Wittlich, so the synagogue lost its purpose. Today it is used as a cultural centre.
The stamp shows the Lighthouse of Tinsdal (issued 01-07-2021).
