The Croatian National Theatre is a theatre, opera and ballet house. A first city theatre was opened in Zagreb in 1834, which was granted government support in 1861. The current building was the project of famed Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Herman Helmer and opened in 1895 attended by Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I.
