Benin: Map and Views

On Wednesday I got three postcards: my first card from Benin, one from Russia and one from France.

Benin is a country in West Africa bordering on Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Niger. The country's capital city is Porto-Novo, while its largest city is Cotonou. The region of Benin was once an important centre of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. In 1960 the country became independent from France as Dahomey and changed its name to Benin in 1975. The old name refers to the Kingdom of Dahomey, which existed between the 17th and 19th century. Benin is a member in the United Nations and the African Union.

The card shows a map of Benin in front of an African map. The pictures around the map show a Tammari house, a lion at the Pendjari National Park, the Pont de Grand-Popo, Beninese children and motorbike taxis.

Stamp:
Behanzin Lyceum (from set of three) (issued 2013)

Thank You very much Mike for arranging this card for me!
