Hong Kong: Temple Street

Today I got three postcards: one from Hong Kong, one from France and one from China.

The card from Hong Kong shows the Temple Street. The Temple Street is a street in Kowloon. It is known for its night market.

China: Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai

Today I got three postcards: one from China, one from Hong Kong and one from France.

The card from China shows the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai. Shanghai is the largest city in China and a global financial centre. The Oriental Pearl Tower was built as TV tower between 1991 and 1994. It was the tallest Chinese structure until 2007.

France: Fort Mahon

Today I got three postcards: one from France, one from China and one from Hong Kong.

The card from France shows the Fort Mahon. The Fort Mahon is a sea fort in Ambleteuse. It was constructed by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in the 17th century at the behest of Louis XIV.

The Croix de Guerre, the Cross of War, is a French military decoration. It was first awarded in 1915.

Australia: Field Post Office in Gallipoli

Today I got three postcards: one from Australia, one from Germany and one from Vietnam.

The card from Australia shows a Field Post Office in Gallipoli. The photo was taken during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915.


The card is prepaid and was added with matching stamps:
ANZAC (whole set) (issued 07-04-2015)
It is a joint issue with New Zealand.

Vietnam: Thien Mu Pagoda in Hué

Today I got three postcards: one from Vietnam, one from Australia and one from Germany.

The card from Vietnam shows the Thien Mu Pagoda in Hué. Hué was between 1802 and 1945 under the Nguyen dynasty the capital of the unified Vietnam. The Thien Mu Pagoda is the tallest religious building in Vietnam and is often the subject of folk rhymes. The Thien Mu Pagoda is since 1993 as part of the Complex of Hué Monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Germany: Wolfenbüttel

Today I got three postcards: one from Germany, one from Vietnam and one from Australia.

The card from Germany shows various views of Wolfenbüttel. Wolfenbüttel is a city in Lower Saxony. Between 1432 and 1753 was Wolfenbüttel the capital of the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Today it is the seat of the bishop of the Protestant Lutheran State Church of Brunswick.
I sent this card to me after I recently visited Wolfenbüttel.

I visited Wolfenbüttel to see the special exhibition "Here is ruled!" in the New Ducal Office. The New Ducal Office houses since 1956 the Department of Prehistory and Early History of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum. The permanent exhibition of the museum is very interesting and has many things to do-it-yourself. For example you can grind cereals or light a fire.
Unfortunately they did not had postcards of the special exhibition, but I bought some cards of the permanent exhibition. 




Without knowing it before during my trip on Sunday there was Sunday shopping in Wolfenbüttel, so I had the possibility to buy some other cards.
One of them shows the yard of the Wolfenbüttel Castle. The Wolfenbüttel Castle is the second largest preserved castle in Lower Saxony. Between 1283 and 1754 it was used by the Dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg as residence in Wolfenbüttel. Today it houses a school, a museum and the Bundesakademie für kulturelle Bildung.
I bought the card directly at the museum shop of the castle.


Another card I bought shows the Residence of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing. Lessing lived in the house from 1777 until his death in 1781. He already lived in Wolfenbüttel since 1770 and worked as librarian at the Herzog August Library. Today it houses a museum about Lessing. The postcard shows also the statue of Nathan the Wise in front of the house.
I bought this card in a book shop.

Germany: Olympiapark in Munich

Today I got two postcards: one from Germany and one from France.

The card from Germany shows the Olympiapark in Munich. The Olympiapark was built for the Games of the XX Olympiad held in August and September 1972 in Munich. The Games of the XX Olympiad were the second Olympic Games held in Germany. During the games eleven participants from Israel and one German police officer were killed by terrorists. The Games of the XX Olympiad are also known for being the first Olympic Games with a mascot. It was called Waldi and was a dachshund. The Olympiapark is still used as venue for big events.

France: Eglise Saint-Epvre in Nancy

Today I got two postcards: one from France and one from Germany.

The card from France shows the Eglise Saint-Epvre in Nancy. The Eglise Saint-Epvre was built between 1864 and 1874 in the Neo-Gothic style.

New Zealand: Blue Penguins with ANZAC stamps

Today I got seven postcards: one from New Zealand and six from Germany.

The card from New Zealand shows two Blue Penguins. The Blue Penguin is between 35cm and 40cm big and is thus the World's smallest penguin. It lives on the coasts of New Zealand and Southern Australia. 
The card arrived convenient to the World Penguin Day.

It is a joint issue with Australia.
Exactly 100 years ago British and French forces landed on the Ottoman peninsula Gallipoli. They tried to open the Dardanelles strait to the Allied fleets to get access to the Ottoman capital Constantinople, today's Istanbul. The campaign ended in January 1916 with an Ottoman victory. 8700 Australians and 2700 New Zealanders lost their lives in the battle. The anniversary of the campaign is remembered every year on 25th April as ANZAC Day in Australia, New Zealand and Tonga.

Germany: Berlin Radio Tower

Today I got seven postcards: six from Germany and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Berlin Radio Tower. The Berlin Radio Tower was built between 1924 and 1926. It is nearly 150m high and has two observation decks. It also has a restaurant at 51m. In 1932 the World's first television programme was broadcasted from the Berlin Radio Tower.

Germany: Grimm Brothers Monument in Hanau

Today I got seven postcards: six from Germany and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Grimm Brothers Monument in Hanau. The Grimm Brothers Monument was unveiled in 1896. The Grimm Brothers were born in Hanau, Jacob Grimm in 1785 and Wilhelm Grimm in 1786.

Germany: Limburg Cathedral

Today I got seven postcards: six from Germany and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Limburg Cathedral. The Limburg Cathedral was built from around 1200 in the late Romanesque style. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Limburg.

Germany: BMW Welt

Today I got seven postcards: six from Germany and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows the BMW Welt in Munich. The BMW Welt was built from 2003 to 2007 and shows current products of the BMW AG. It houses among others the BMW Museum and the BMW Headquarters. It is also used as distribution centre for BMW cars.

Germany: Otto von Bismarck

Today I got seven postcards: six from Germany and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows "Apotheosis of Prince Bismarck" by Ludwig Rudow. Otto von Bismarck is known for creating the first welfare state in the modern world. On the domestic front he fought against the Catholic Church in a culture war and the Socialist. He died in 1898 in Friedrichsruh.
I bought this card when I recently visited the German Historical Museum in Berlin.

Germany: Otto von Bismarck

Today I got seven postcards: six from Germany and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows Otto von Bismarck and Emperor Wilhelm I. Otto von Bismarck was born in 1815 in Schönhausen. He was a conservative Prussian statesman. From 1862 to 1890 he was Foreign Minister of Prussia, from 1867 to 1871 Chancellor of the North German Confederation, from 1862 until January 1873 and from November 1873 to 1890 Minister President of Prussia and from 1871 to 1890 Germany's first Chancellor. From 1864 to 1871 he provoked the Wars of German Unification against Denmark, Austria and France. He used balance of power diplomacy and was against the acquiring of German colonies. In 1890 he was removed by Emperor Wilhelm II from his tenure, but he still had an influence on the politics with his comments on his successors.
I bought this card when I recently visited the German Historical Museum in Berlin.

USA: Louisville

Today I got two postcards: one from the USA and one from Germany.

The card from the USA shows the County Courthouse in Louisville. Louisville is the largest city of the US State Kentucky. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France, because France supported the United States of America in the American Revolutionary War against Great Britain.

Germany: Wilhelm Busch Museum

Today I got two postcards: one from Germany and one from the USA.

The card from Germany is from the Wilhelm Busch Museum in Hanover. The Wilhelm Busch Museum opened in 1937 and after some moves it is now located in the Georgenpalais in the Herrenhausen Gardens. The museum houses the World's largest collection of works by Wilhelm Busch and also other collections about other artists of satirical art. The card shows Teacher Lämpel from the fourth prank in Max and Moritz, the most famous book of Wilhelm Busch.
I bought this card when I recently visited the Wilhelm Busch Museum.

At the museum I also bought a postcard showing a photo of Wilhelm Busch taken around 1877.


All the other cards I bought at the museum show illustrations from Wilhelm Busch's works. Two of them show Widow Bolte from the second prank of Max and Moritz.


The other two show Hans Huckebein and Pious Helene.

Germany: Quedlinburg

Today I got two postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the castle hill in Quedlinburg. Quedlinburg is a city in Saxony-Anhalt located north of the Harz. The Collegiate Church, the Castle and the Old Town of Quedlinburg are since 1994 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
