Malaysia: Selangor Forest Park

After nearly three years my collection of VMY 2014 cards is finally complete. Thanks to everyone who helped me!

On 31st July I got three postcards from Malaysia. 

One of them shows the Selangor Forest Park of the Forest Research Institute Malaysia. The Forest Research Institute Malaysia promotes sustainable management and optimal use of forest resources. The Selangor Forest Park is a man-made tropical rain forest planted and maintained by the institute since the 1920s. It proved that tropical rain forest can be re-created on devastated land and is the World’s oldest and largest re-created tropical rain forest. The Selangor Forest Park seeks for the inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

EDIT: The Forest Research Institute Malaysia Forest Park Selangor was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2025.

Malaysia: Crystal Mosque in Kuala Terengganu

On 31st July I got three postcards from Malaysia. 

One of them shows the Crystal Mosque in Kuala Terengganu. The Crystal Mosque was built between 2006 and 2008 of steel, glass and crystal. It is one of the main attractions of the Islamic Heritage Park.

Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur

On 31st July I got three postcards from Malaysia. 

One of them shows an aerial view of Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is the capital city, the largest city and a Federal Territory of Malaysia. It is also recognised as global city and became one of the New7Wonders Cities in 2014. In recent decades the city has undergone rapid development.

Malaysia: Langkawi Cable Car

On Friday I got three postcards: two from Malaysia and one from Laos.

One of the cards from Malaysia shows the Langkawi Cable Car. The Langkawi Cable Car is operating since 2002 and since then became one of the major attractions on Langkawi Island.

Malaysia: Penang Hill Railway

On Friday I got three postcards: two from Malaysia and one from Laos.

One of the cards from Malaysia shows the Penang Hill Railway. The Penang Hill Railway is a one section funicular railway climbing the Penang Hill near George Town. It is operating since 1923.

Malaysia: Kelam Cave

Today I got four postcards: one from Malaysia, one from Italy, one from Germany and one from Myanmar.

The card from Malaysia shows the Kelam Cave. The Kelam Cave, which is also known as Cave of Darkness, is a cave near the small town of Kaki Bukit in the Malaysian State of Perlis. The waterpath in the cave was once used to transport tin ore, but today it is a popular tourist destination.

Malaysia: Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque in Johor Bahru

Yesterday I got three postcards: two from Malaysia and one from Russia.

One of the cards from Malaysia shows the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque in Johor Bahru. Johor Bahru is the capital of the Malaysian State of Johor and also one of the biggest cities of Malaysia. The Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque was built between 1892 and 1900. It is the state mosque of Johor. 
The card was sent in an envelope, which was spoiled during the journey. :(

Malaysia: Cameron Highlands

Yesterday I got three postcards: two from Malaysia and one from Russia.

One of the cards from Malaysia shows the Cameron Highlands in the Malaysian State of Pahang. The Cameron Highlands were discovered by Sir William Cameron in 1885. It is a popular tourist destination.
The card was sent in an envelope, which was spoiled during the journey. :(

Malaysia: Putrajaya

Today I got a postcard from Malaysia.

It shows the Putra Square in Putrajaya. Putrajaya is a planned city. It was founded in 1995 and serves as new federal administrative centre. In 1999 became Putrajaya the seat of the government and today it also houses the national judiciary of Malaysia, but Kuala Lumpur still remains Malaysia's official and royal capital. Putrajaya became a Federal Territory in 2001. The city is a part of the Multimedia Super Corridor, a special economic zone with many information and communications technology companies. It was planned as garden and intelligent city. At the Putra Square there are the Putra Mosque and the Perdana Putra, the office complex of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Malaysia: Istana Seri Menanti

Yesterday I got two postcards: one from Malaysia and one from Singapore.

The card from Malaysia shows the Istana Seri Menanti. Seri Menanti is the royal capital of the Malaysian State of Negeri Sembilan and houses the seat of the Yamtuan Besar, the head of state of Negeri Sembilan. The Istana Seri Menanti is a timber palace built between 1902 and 1908 without using any nails. Today is houses the Royal Museum of Seri Menanti.

Malaysia: Deer Cave

On Thursday I got six postcards: one from Malaysia, one from France, three from Germany and one from the Philippines.

The card from Malaysia shows the Deer Cave in the Malaysian State of Sarawak. The Deer Cave is one of many caves at the Gunung Mulu National Park. It is known for its millions of bats from over 30 species. There is a Bat Observatory, which can be used by tourists and scientists to watch the bats without affecting their habitat or habits. The Gunung Mulu National Park is since 2000 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The card from Malaysia shows a man making a traditional Malaysian moon-kite, the Wau bulan, in the State of Kelantan. The Wau bulan is a symbol of Malaysia.

Malaysia: Malacca Town

Yesterday I got five postcards: one from Malaysia, one from China, two from Germany and one from Canada.

The card from Malaysia shows the Stadhuys in Malacca Town. Malacca Town is the capital city of the Malaysian State of Malacca. It was a Portuguese, Dutch and at the end British colony. Since 2008 is Malacca Town together with George Town on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Malaysia: Royal Belum State Park

Today I got four postcards: one from Malaysia, one from Germany and two from Vietnam.

The card from Malaysia shows a view of the Royal Belum State Park in Belum-Temengor in the Malaysian State of Perak. Belum-Temengor is both the largest continuous forest complex in Peninsular Malaysia and one of the World’s oldest rainforests. Belum-Temengor is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including the Malaysian tiger, the tapir, all ten species of hornbills and three species of Rafflesia.
