Singapore: Pokemon Center

On 11th November I got a postcard from Singapore.

It is from the Pokemon Centre in Singapore and shows a wonderful illustration of the indoor waterfall at the Jewel Changi Airport. The Pokemon Center is located in this airport and was opened on 17th April 2019. It is the first permanent Pokemon Center in South East Asia. I love this card!

Three stamps are used on this card. The upper two are from a set of ten Greeting stamps (issued 03-09-2021) and below is a variable value label stamp about the Year of the Ox (issued 08-01-2021). On the backside are also more Pokemon illustrations.

Singapore: Gardens by the Bay

On 17th May I got a postcard from Singapore. 

It shows the Gardens by the Bay. The Gardens by the Bay are one of Singapore's most famous landmarks and are built on 101 hectares of reclaimed land. It consists of 3 waterfront gardens and showcases a great diversity of flora and fauna from around the World. There are also 2 cool conservatories called Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. This card in particular shows some of the 18 Supertrees at night. These Supertrees are between 25m and 50m high and have many functions such as planting, shading and working as environmental engines for the gardens. The Gardens by the Bay are very high on the list of places I want to visit one day.

The whole Singaporean set about the Year of the Ox (issued 08-01-2021) was used on this card.

Singapore: Postcrossing Meet-up

On 5th March I got a postcard from Singapore.

The card is the official card for a Chinese New Year Meet-up. Usually there is a big Postcrossing meet-up in Singapore every January, but I am not sure whether this is one of these or if the big one was cancelled due to Covid-19. Nonetheless getting meet-up cards currently is something very special.

The card was signed during the meet-up. The stamp is from a set of eight about Festivals (issued 19-10-2016). Beside the Chinese New Year these stamps celebrate Eid al-Fitr, Deepavali and Christmas.

Singapore: Coffee & Ice Cream

On 19th January I got two postcards: one from Singapore and one from Canada.

The card from Singapore is an ad card for a restaurant offering traditional Swiss food.

The stamp is from a set of six about Singapore in the Evening (issued 03-08-2018). This one shows Marina Bay.

Singapore: Singa the Lion

On 17th November I got two postcards: one from Singapore and one from Germany.

The card from Singapore shows Singa the Lion. Singa the Lion was created in 1962 as mascot for various public education programs in Singapore. Originally created to educate the public about courtesy, it was also the mascot of the Singapore Kindness Movement between 2009 and 2013. This card was made into a maxicard with one of the five stamps about Singapore Mascots (issued 03-08-2020). On the backside is a stamp about the 75th anniversary of the End of World War II. That complete set you can see here on my stamp blog.

Singapore: Clarke Quay

On 30th September I got a postcard from Singapore.

It shows the Clarke Quay. The Clarke Quay is a historical riverside quay in Singapore. Clarke Quay was named after Sir Andrew Clarke, Singapore's second Governor who played a key role in positioning Singapore as the main port for the Malay states of Perak, Selangor and Sungei Ujong. Today five blocks of restored warehouses house various restaurants and nightclubs that are popular among locals and tourists.

Two stamps were used on the card, an old one and a recent one. The left stamp was issued on 4th July 1990 and is from a set of nine about Singapore Tourism. A Dragon Boat Festival is shown on the stamp. The right stamp celebrates the Bicentenary of the Singapore Police Force. It is from a set of six and was issued on 11th January 2020.

Singapore: Year of the Rat

Last Thursday I got two postcards: one from Singapore and one from Japan.

The card from Singapore is a maxicard about the Year of the Rat. The stamp is from a set of two and was issued on 8th January 2020.

Singapore: 9th Postcrossing Meet-up

Last Monday I got three postcards: two from Singapore and one from the United Kingdom.

The two cards from Singapore are about the recent Postcrossing Meet-up. Big Postcrossing Meet-up are held in Singapore in January since 2012. I am always happy to receive cards from these meet-ups and luckily always got one since 2015. This year for the first time I got two different cards, but I am not sure if the first one is an officially designed one or if it was designed privately by one of the participiants.

The first card shows various icons of Singapore.

The second card was designed with a Year of the Rat theme. This card highlights that this was actually the second joint meet-up between Singapore and Wuxi in China. Back in 2017 Singapore and Wuxi held the first Joint Postcrossing Meet-up ever.

Singapore: Battle Box

Last Wednesday I got two postcards: one from Singapore and one from the United Arab Emirates.

The card from Singapore is from the Battle Box. The Battle Box is a museum about World War II. It was opened in 1997 in the underground bunker where the surrender of Singapore was decided in 1942.

Singapore: Great Air Race

On 12th August I got a postcard from Singapore.

It shows a scene of the 1919 England to Australia flight, also known as Great Air Race. In 1919 the Australian government offered a prize of £A10,000 for the first Australians in a British aircraft to fly from Great Britain to Australia within 30 days. Six teams took part in the race, but the winners were pilot Ross Smith, his brother Keith Smith and mechanics James Bennett and Wally Shiers. Reporting points during the journey were Alexandria and Singapore. 

The card was signed by the designer of the stamp.

Singapore: Mass Rapid Transit

On Tuesday I got a postcard from Singapore.

It shows a part of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit. The Mass Rapid Transit is a major part of the railway system in Singapore. The first section was opened in 1987 and today it spans most of the country. Three lines of the system are fully automated.

Singapore: Night Safari

On Wednesday I got a postcard from Singapore.

It shows a Thumbuakar Performance at the Night Safari. The Night Safari was opened in 1994 and is thus the World's first nocturnal zoo, which means that it is only open at night and only shows nocturnal animals. Beside the animals also cultural performances are a regular feature at the safari. The Night Safari is today one of the most popular tourist destinations in Singapore and is visited by around 1million visitors every year.

Singapore: Skyline

Last Tuesday I got three postcards: one from Singapore and two from Germany.

The card from Singapore shows Singapore's skyline with famous buildings like the Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer.

On the backside of the card are three special postmarks about the 1st anniversary of the Philatelic Store at the General Post Office, World Post Day and the 160th anniversary of Singapore's Postal Service.

It is a joint issue with Malaysia.
