Italy: Field of Ghina in Borgolavezzaro

On Tuesday I got a postcard from Italy.

It shows the Field of Ghina in Borgolavezzaro. The Field of Ghina is a small botanical garden which gives an inside in the flora of the Province of Novara. As a small curiosity all plants are classified with names in Latin, Italian and a local dialect.

Mia Martini, whose real name was Domenica Bertè, was born in 1947. In 1982 she was awarded the first critics award at the Sanremo Music Festival, which was later entitled to her. She also represented Italy twice at the Eurovision Song Contest, once in 1977 with Libera and once in 1992 with Rapsodia. Mia Martini died in 1995.

Japan: Niigata Bandajima Art Museum

Last Saturday I got a postcard from Japan.

It shows the Lapis Lazuli Garden at the Niigata Bandajima Art Museum. The Niigata Bandajima Art Museum was opened in 2003 as a branch of the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art. It collects modern art dating from 1945 onwards and supports artists who live in or have a connection with the Niigata Prefecture.

Austria: Vienna State Opera

On Friday I got a postcard from Austria.

It shows the Vienna State Opera. The Vienna State Opera is one of the most famous opera houses in the World. As the first major building on Vienna's Ringstrasse it was built between 1861 and 1869 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Germany: German Röntgen Museum in Lennep

On Tuesday I got a postcard from Germany.

It shows the German Röntgen Museum in Lennep. The German Röntgen Museum was opened in 1932 and is located near the house where Wilhelm Röntgen was in 1845.

Indonesia: Tintin

On Saturday I got two postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock and a Komodo Dragon. Tintin and his friends came to Indonesia in their 22nd adventure, Flight 714. Although most of the story takes place on the fictious island Bompa, Tintin and the others have a stopover in Jakarta and also Bompa is inspired by Indonesia with a Komodo Dragon and a Proboscis Monkey living there.

Indonesia: 18th Asian Games

On Saturday I got two postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows the mascots of the 18th Asian Games. The 18th Asian Games were held in Jakarta and Palembang between the 18th August and 2nd September 2018. It was the second time that Jakarta hosted the Asian Games and the first time that the Asian Games were co-hosted in two cities. During the games North and South Korea competed as a unified team in some events.

Poland: Żupny Castle

On Friday I got a postcard from Poland.

It shows the Żupny Castle. The Żupny Castle is a Gothic castle constructed between the 14th and 16th century. Until 1945 it was the headquarters of the Wieliczka and Bochnia Salt Mine and today it houses the Cracow Saltworks Museum. As part of an expansion of the Wieliczka Salt Mine is the Żupny Castle since 2013 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Austria: Postcrossing connects the world

Austria: Erzberg Rodeo

Last Thursday I got three postcards from Austria.

One of them is about the Erzberg Rodeo. The Erzberg Rodeo is an Austrian motorcycle enduro event in Styria. It was first held in 1995 and since then it is held annually in May or June. Today it is the largest of its kind in Europa.

Australia: Kangaroo and Map Stamps

On Monday I got a postcard from Australia.

It shows a sheet of £2 Kangaroo and Map Stamps. The Kangaroo and Map stamp series was the first stamp series issued in Australia to be used in the whole country. It was issued twelve years after the Federation of Australia on the 2nd January 1913 and replaced the stamps of the former six separate British self-governing colonies. The card is a maxicard. The stamp is from a set of five about Australia's favourite stamps and was issued on the 26th June 2009.


The card is prepaid.

China: Wuxi Postcrossing Meet-up

Last Saturday I got three postcards: one from China, one from Singapore and one from Malaysia.

The card from China is the official postcard of the recent Postcrossing Meet-up in Wuxi.
