New Zealand: Mount Taranaki

Today I got two postcards: one from New Zealand and one from Japan.

The card from New Zealand shows the Mount Egmont/Taranaki. The Mountain was called Mount Taranaki by the Maori since the year dot but was renamed by James Cook after the Earl of Egmont. Today the Mountain is commonly called Mount Taranaki. The Mount Taranaki is located on the North Island and is a volcano regarded as dormant as its last eruption was about 350 years ago. The Mount Taranaki is 2518m high and is one of the most symmetrical volcanic cones in the world. The card shows in the foreground also the Lake Mangamahoe.

With a matching stamp:

Thank You very much Sharon!
