Indonesia: Jakarta History Museum

Today I got four postcards: one from Indonesia, two from Germany and one from Hungary.

The card from Indonesia shows the Jakarta History Museum. The Jakarta History Museum shows more than 20000 exhibits about the history of the Jakarta region. It was opened in 1974 and is housed in the former City Hall of Batavia.

Hungary: Eger

Today I got four postcards: one from Hungary, one from Indonesia and two from Germany.

The card from Hungary shows various views of Eger. Eger is a city in northern Hungary and the seat of the Heves county. The Minaret of Eger (central picture) is one of just three remaining minarets in Hungary and dates back to the time of the Ottoman occupation. It is the northernmost Turkish minaret in Europe. The Cathedral of Eger (upper left picture) is the second largest church in Hungary.

Germany: Sloe Emperor Moth

Today I got four postcards: two from Germany, one from Hungary and one from Indonesia.

One of the cards from Germany shows two Sloe Emperor Moths. The Sloe Emperor Moth is a moth native to Eastern Europe. 
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Germany: Kröpcke in Hanover

Today I got four postcards: two from Germany, one from Hungary and one from Indonesia.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Kröpcke in Hanover. The Kröpcke is the central square of the city and is also the location of the city's main tram station.

Germany: Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum

Today I visited once again the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum to see the new special exhibition Walking on Roses and Forget-me-not. The exhibition was created by the New Zealand artist Matthew Cowan and deals with various European rites of courtship.

Germany: Briefzentrum 28

Today I got four postcards: one from Germany and three from Belgium.

The card from Germany shows the Briefzentrum 28 in Bremen. The Briefzentrum 28 is one of the 82 mail sorting centres of the German Post. It is operational since 1996 and processes nearly 3million pieces of mail every day.


The card was signed during a Postcrossing Meet-up held at the Briefzentrum.

Belgium: Grand Place in Brussels

Today I got four postcards: three from Belgium and one from Germany.

One of the cards from Belgium shows the Grand Place in Brussels. The Grand Place is the main square of Belgium's capital and was an important political and commercial centre. Due to its homogeneous buildings it is considered to be the most beautiful square in Europe. It is also a popular tourist destination. The Museum of the City of Brussels, where the costumes of the Manneken Pis are kept, is housed in the Maison du Roi (upper right picture). The Grand Place is since 1985 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Belgium: Ostend

Today I got four postcards: three from Belgium and one from Germany.

Gebrielle Petit was born in Tournai in 1893. After the outbreak of World War I she started to serve with the Belgian Red Cross, but later she also spied for the British Secret Service and helped several young men across the Dutch border. She was executed by the Germans in 1916 and became a Belgian national heroine after the end of the war.

One of the cards from Belgium shows a detail of the Monument to the Martyrs of the Revolution of 1830 in Brussels.

Australia: ANZAC Memorial in Albany

Today I got three postcards: one from Australia, one from Germany and one from New Zealand.

The card from Australia shows the ANZAC Memorial in Albany. Albany is a port city in Western Australia. In late 1914 was Albany the last place in Australia which the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps saw before their departure to Egypt.

In 1916 Australian troops were moved to the Western Front, where they were introduced to trench warfare. Later that year they also fought in the Battle of the Somme. Also in 1916 a referendum was held in Australia about a possibly conscription, which was won by the "no" votes. 
Matron Grace Wilson got the Royal Red Cross in 1916.

New Zealand: Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

Today I got three postcards: one from New Zealand, one from Australia and one from Germany.

The card from New Zealand shows many Maori mataus from the collection of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington. The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is the national museum of New Zealand. It was established in 1992.

Germany: Kiel Week

Today I got three postcards: one from Germany, one from New Zealand and one from Australia.

The card from Germany is the official card of this year's Kiel Week. The Kiel Week is an annual sailing event in Schleswig-Holstein's capital Kiel. It is one of the largest of its kind in the World and also one of the largest funfairs in Germany.

Inside was my first card from Jordan.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a country in Western Asia bordering on Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Palestine. It is a member of the Arab League and the United Nations. It is a very hospitable country accepting many refugees from surrounding countries. Amman is the country's capital and largest city.

The card shows Petra. Petra was the Nabataean capital in ancient times and was located near important trading routes. It was cut into the rock and is known for its water conduit system. It is today Jordan's most visited sight. Since 1985 is Petra on the UNESCO World Heritage List and since 2007 it is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Yesterday I got two postcards: one from Germany and one from France.

The card from Germany is a self-made card of myself. I used a prepaid card of the German Post and put two dried Oak leaves on it.

The card from France is from the Disneyland Paris. The Disneyland Paris opened in 1992. It is the most visited theme park in Europe.

One of them shows the Schrammsteine. The Schrammsteine are a group of rocks in the Saxon Switzerland.

On Saturday I got three postcards from Germany.

One of them shows a Swallowtail in a meadow. The Swallowtail is a butterfly native to America, Asia and Europe.
I bought this card in my home town.

Åland: Mariehamn

Today I got three postcards: one from the Åland Islands, one from Macao and one from Germany.

The card from the Åland Islands shows Mariehamn. Mariehamn is the capital city and only city of the Åland Islands. It is also the second most important harbour of entire Finland. The city was founded in 1861 by Russian Emperor Alexander II and is named after his wife, Maria Alexandrovna.

Germany: Pforzheim

Today I got three postcards: one from Germany, one from the Åland Islands and one from Macao.

The card from Germany shows various views of Pforzheim. Pforzheim is a big city in the German State of Baden-Württemberg near the Black Forest. It is known as Golden City, as three quarters of the German jewelry are produced there. In 1888 Bertha Benz drove from Mannheim to Pforzheim with her husband's automobile, making the city the endpoint of the World's first long distance car drive. During World War II big parts of the city were destroyed, but it was later rebuilt. 

Pforzheim was the last missing German big city in my collection, so the collection is now completed. ^___^

Macao: Ruins of St. Paul's

Today I got three postcards: one from Macao, one from Germany and one from the Åland Islands.

The card from Macao shows the Ruins of St. Paul's in the Historic Centre of Macao. The Church of Mater Dei, built between 1602 and 1640, and the St. Paul's College were destroyed by a fire in 1835. Since then the remaining facade became Macao's landmark. The Historic Centre of Macao is one of the earliest and longest-lasting encounters between China and the West and provides a unique testimony to the meeting of influences from East and West. Since 2005 is the Historic Centre of Macao on the UNESCO World Heritage List.


The card is prepaid.
