On 29th August I was in Walkenried to visit the Walkenried Abbey.
The Walkenried Abbey was a Cistercian abbey founded in 1127. It was once one of the most important and richest Cistercian abbeys in Germany. The monks of the abbey helped to develop the Upper Harz Water Management System and also owned parts of the Mines of Rammelsberg. In 2006 an interesting Cistercian Museum was established in the Walkenried Abbey and since 2010 it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
