Today I got eight postcards: five from Germany, one from Taiwan, one from Denmark and one from Japan.
One of the cards from Germany shows the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Since the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 the Brandenburg Gate lay in the restricted zone. Only East German border guards and guided tours mainly consisting of guests of state were able to go to the building. On 22nd December 1989 the Brandenburg Gate was opened attended by 100000 visitors and the barriers were removed.
I got this card a few weeks ago in an envelope.
With a matching stamp:
Variable Value stamp (from set of two) (issued 24-10-2008)
with a special postmark about the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Brandenburg Gate
Thank You very much Mirko for sending me the card in a cover!
