Italy: Florence

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Italy shows Florence. Florence is the eight largest city of Italy and the largest of the Italian region of Tuscany, of which it is also the capital. In the Middle Ages was Florence one of the wealthiest cities in Europa and a centre for trade and finance. It is also known as birthplace of the Renaissance. Between 1865 and 1871 was Florence the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. Two famous sites on the card are the Florence Cathedral and the Uffizi Gallery, one of the oldest art museums in the World. The Historic Centre of Florence is since 1982 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The complete corner of the stamp got lost during the journey, but the postmark and the priority label remained.

Thank You very much Angela!
