France: Annecy

Last Thursday I got a postcard from France.

It shows various views of Annecy. Annecy is the largest city of Haute-Savoie department in southeastern France. It is a popular tourist destination and was described as Pearl of French Alps and Venice of the Alps.

Germany: Dechen Cave in Iserlohn

Last Tuesday I got two postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Dechen Cave in Iserlohn. The Dechen Cave was discovered by two railway workers in 1868 and is today one of the most visited show caves in Germany. As the cave was discovered by railway workers, it was owned by the railway for more than hundred years and even got its own train station. The German Cave Museum was opened next to it in 2006.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Germany: Worms Cathedral

Last Tuesday I got two postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Worms Cathedral. The Worms Cathedral was built in the 12th and 13th century. It is an important Romanesque building and the smallest of the three Rhenish Imperial Cathedrals. The cathedral is associated with some great events of the European history including the Concordat of Worms which ended the Investiture controversy in 1122 and the Diet of Worms in 1521, during which Martin Luther was condemned as a heretic. Until its extinction in 1800 it was the seat of the Catholic Prince-Bishopric of Worms.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Last Tuesday I got not only two postcards but also a cover from Germany. It is prepaid and was issued to commemorate the 525th birthday of Anton Fugger. I used it to get a special postmark from Augsburg.


Stamp Order from Macao

Last Tuesday I got my stamp order from Macao.

Among others I bought a stamp set about the Year of the Rooster, which was issued on 5th January 2017.


I also bought a set of maxicards about Mulan. The stamps were issued on 8th April 2016.

France: Grenoble

Last Monday I got a postcard from France.

It shows an aerial view of Grenoble. Grenoble is the capital of the department of Isère. It is the largest city in the Alps and an important European scientific centre. In 1968 it hosted the Olympic Winter Games.

Germany: History of Rostock

Last Saturday I got three postcards: two from Germany and one from the Åland Islands.

One of the cards from Germany is the Chronicle card of Rostock. Rostock was first mentioned in 1161 and in 1218 it got the town privileges. In 1259 it was a founding member of the Hanseatic League. In the following centuries the city flourished and in 1419 the university was founded, but from than on its importance declined. In 1573 it was forced to accept the sovereignty of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. Although the Thirty Years' War marked another setback, the city still owned a large Baltic Sea fleet, which numbered 378 ships in 1870. During the Second World War the city was badly damaged and after the war the city became the largest port, the most important shipbuilding place and a district capital in the German Democratic Republic. Since 1990 it is a part of the German State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Germany: Holsten Gate in Lübeck

Last Saturday I got three postcards: two from Germany and one from the Åland Islands.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Holsten Gate in Lübeck. The Holsten Gate is one of only two preserved city gates of Lübeck's medieval city fortifications. It was built in the style of the Brick Gothic in 1464. Today is the Holsten Gate a symbol of Lübeck and houses a museum about Lübeck's history.

Azores: Angra do Heroísmo with Postcrossing Postmark

On Thursday I got a postcard from the Azores, a postcard from France, three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape and two postcards from Belgium.

The card from the Azores shows the Igreja da Misericórdia in Angra do Heroísmo. The Igreja da Misericórdia was built between 1728 and 1746. As part of the Central Zone of the Town of Angra do Heroísmo is the church since 1983 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.


The card was signed during the Postcrossing Meet-up in Angra do Heroísmo.

Belgium: Royal Museum for Central Africa

On Thursday I got two postcards from Belgium, a postcard from the Azores, a postcard from France and three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape.

One of the cards from Belgium shows the Royal Museum for Central Africa. The Royal Museum for Central Africa was established to showcase King Leopold II's Congo Free State in the 1897 World Exhibition. Actually intended as a colonial museum, from 1960 onwards it has more focused on ethnography and anthropology. Currently the museum is closed for renovations and when it will be reopened, its new name will be AfricaMuseum.

Belgium: Pont des Trous in Tournai

On Thursday I got two postcards from Belgium, a postcard from the Azores, a postcard from France and three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape.

One of the cards from Belgium shows the Pont des Trous in Tournai. The Pont des Trous was built in the late 12th century and is one of the last military river bridges in the World.

Thailand: Maxicards

On Thursday I got three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape, two postcards from Belgium, a postcard from the Azores and a postcard from France.

The first maxicard from Thailand is about the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations with Romania. On the card is the complete matching set that was issued on 31st May 2018.


The second maxicard is about the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations with Turkey. On the card is the complete matching set that was issued on 12th May 2018.


The third maxicard is about Vesak Day. The stamp is from a set of four and was issued on 22nd May 2018.

France: Chambéry

On Thursday I got a postcard from France, three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape, two cards from Belgium and a postcard from the Azores.

The card from France shows Chambéry. Chambéry is a city in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It was the traditional capital of the Savoy region and the residence of the House of Savoy, which became the ruling dynasty of Italy in 1861. The city often changed hands between France and the Duchy of Savoy, but was finally annexed by France in 1860 due to a political agreement with Savoy that began the final steps in the process of unification of Italy. Today it is the capital of the department of Savoie. In 2006 it was the Alpine Town of the Year.
