France: Berck-sur-Mer

On Saturday I got two postcards: one from France and one from Belgium.

The card from France shows Berck-sur-Mer. Berck-sur-Mer is a commune in northern France. It is known for the International Kite Festival.

70 years 8th May 1945 (issued 09-05-2015)
On 8th May 1945 ended World War II in Europe with the unconditional surrender of Germany's armed forces.

Hong Kong: Hong Kong International Airport

On Wednesday I got four postcards: one from Hong Kong, two from Germany and one from Singapore.

The card from Hong Kong shows the Hong Kong International Airport. The Hong Kong International Airport was built on reclaimed land and opened in 1998. It is the main airport of Hong Kong. It is the World's busiest cargo and tenth busiest passenger airport.

Germany: Water Tower in Völklingen

On Wednesday I got four postcards: two from Germany, one from Singapore and one from Hong Kong

One of the cards from Germany shows the water tower of the Völklingen Ironworks in the German State of Saarland. The water tower was built to provide the Ironworks with water for the iron making. The water came from the River Saar.

Germany: Kiel Week

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them is the official card of this year's Kiel Week. The Kiel Week is an annual sailing event in Schleswig-Holstein's capital Kiel. It is one of the largest of its kind in the World and also one of the largest funfairs in Germany.

Germany: Moritzburg Lighthouse

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Moritzburg Lighthouse. The Moritzburg Lighthouse was built between 1775 and 1776 and is thus Germany's oldest inland lighthouse. It was built on a lake near the Moritzburg Castle to re-enact naval battles for the monarch's amusement.

Germany: Moritzburg Castle

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Moritzburg Castle. The Moritzburg Castle is a Baroque castle in the German State of Saxony. It was built between 1723 and 1736 by Augustus II the Strong on the same place where already Duke Moritz of Saxony built a hunting lodge in the 16th century. It houses a museum of hunting trophies and 18th century objects.

Germany: History of Hamelin

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them is the Chronicle card of Hamelin. Hamelin was first mentioned as a city around 1200 and in the 13th century it came to the Dukes of Braunschweig. Between 1426 and 1572 it was a member of the Hanseatic League. In 1866 it became a part of Prussia. Today it is known as the city of the Pied Piper because of a famous folk tale from 1284. Every Sunday in summer the story is played in the city.

Germany: Town Hall of Osnabrück

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Town Hall of Osnabrück. The Town Hall of Osnabrück was built between 1487 and 1512 in the late Gothic style. In 1648 the Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years' War, was negotiated and signed in the Town Halls of Osnabrück and Münster. Due to this event Osnabrück and Münster got the European Heritage Label in 2014.

Germany: Osnabrück

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them shows various views of Osnabrück. Osnabrück is the fourth largest city of Lower Saxony and was founded at the centre of important European trading routes. The St.Peter's Cathedral (upper right corner) is the seat of the Diocese of Osnabrück.

Germany: History of Rosenheim

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them is the Cronicle card of Rosenheim. Rosenheim was first mentioned in 1234. In 1328 it got the market rights and became prosperous due to the salt trade. In the 17th century the city was badly damaged by fires and flooding. In 1809 the salt works were built. In 1864 the city got the town privileges.

Germany: Bavarian Costumes

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them shows people wearing traditional Bavarian costumes. The most famous Bavarian costumes are the mountain costumes from Upper Bavaria, of which there are six different types. The men normally wear a lederhosen and the women a dirndl.

Germany: Munich

On Tuesday I got nine postcards from Germany.

One of them shows an aerial view of Munich. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and by population and area Bavaria's largest city. It is also the third largest city in Germany, the largest which is no city state and the twelfth largest of the European Union. Munich is also the most densely populated city of Germany and it has the highest altitude of all German state capitals. Munich has also the lowest crime rate of the German big cities. Many concerns and insurances have their seats in Munich making it a world city and Germany's second most important financial centre.

I bought this card when I visited Munich last year.
