Today I got a postcard from Germany.
The card shows an aerial view of the former East Berlin. East Berlin arose from the Soviet Sector of Berlin established in 1945 and although not a part of the GDR East Berlin was de facto its capital. From 1961 until yesterday 25 years ago East Berlin was separated from West Berlin by the Berlin Wall. Two famous buildings on the card are the Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of the division of Germany, and the Fernsehturm Berlin built by the Socialist government between 1965 and 1969. The line at the bottom of the card marks the route of the Berlin Wall.
I bought this card when I visited Berlin this summer.
