Russia: 2018 FIFA World Cup

Last Wednesday I got a postcard from Russia.

It was printed for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The 2018 FIFA World Cup started in Russia on the 14th June and will end on the 15th July. It is the first time that Russia hosts the FIFA World Cup. A total of 64 matches are played by 32 teams in twelve venues located in eleven cities, of which ten are in European Russia. Germany is the defending champion and Iceland and Panama made both their first appearances at a FIFA World Cup. The mascot is an anthropomorphic wolf called Zabivaka.

With a matching stamp:
Flora and Fauna (from set of fifteen) (issued 29-08-2008)
FIFA World Cup - Participating Teams (from set of eight) (issued 10-05-2018)
The stamp is about Group F, which consisted of Germany, Mexiko, South Korea and Sweden. Interestingly the card was sent on the day when Sweden defeated South Korea and arrived when Germany lost against South Korea and Sweden defeated Mexiko. Sweden was the best team of the group followed by Mexiko, South Korea and Germany.

Thank You very much Marina!
