Italy: Monte San Giorgio

Today I got two postcards: one from Italy and one from France.

The card from Italy shows a reconstruction of the environment of the Monte San Giorgio. The Monte San Giorgio is the World's best fossil record of marine life from the Triassic Period. Since 2003 is the Swiss part of the Monte San Giorgio on the UNESCO World Heritage List and in 2010 it was expanded by the Italian part.

France: Pic du Midi

Today I got two postcards: one from France and one from Italy.

The card from France shows the Pic du Midi. The Pic du Midi is a mountain in the French Pyrenees. It is 2877m tall. On the top is a famous observatory.

The Bleuet de France is a symbol of the World War I and of the remembrance. The cornflower blossomed like the poppy on the battle fields.

New Zealand: Waitangi Treaty Grounds

Today I got three postcards: two from New Zealand and one from the USA.

One of the cards from New Zealand shows a Maori war canoe found at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. At the Waitangi Treaty Grounds Maori Chiefs and the British Crown signed on 6th February 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi, the founding document of the nation of New Zealand. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds are one of New Zealand's premier historic sites.

New Zealand: Wellington Regional Stadium

Today I got three postcards: two from New Zealand and one from the USA.

One of the cards from New Zealand shows the Wellington Regional Stadium. The Wellington Regional Stadium was built from 1998 to 2000 to replace the old Athletic Park. It has 34,500 seats. In 2015 games of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will be held at the stadium, after it has already hosted other international sports events.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is held from February to March in Australia and New Zealand. Fourteen countries will take part in it. The stamps on the card are related to the teams of Zimbabwe, India and New Zealand.

USA: Chicago Chinatown

Today I got three postcards: one from the USA and two from New Zealand.

The card from the USA shows the Chinatown in Chicago. Chicago is the second oldest Chinese settlement in America. The building in the middle of the card is the Chinese American Museum of Chicago. It opened in 2005 and has exhibitions on the life of Chinese immigrants in the American midwest.

Australia: Victoria Fossil Cave

Today I got a postcard from Australia.

It shows the Victoria Fossil Cave at the Naracoorte Caves National Park in South Australia. The Naracoorte National Park is among the World’s 10 greatest fossil sites. It illustrates the evolution of the unique Australian fauna. Since 1994 are the Australian Fossil Mammal Sites at the Naracoorte Caves National Park together with the ones of Riversleigh on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Denmark: Abbey Church of Horsens

On Thursday I got two postcards: one from Denmark and one from Taiwan.

The card from Denmark shows the altar of the abbey church in Horsens. The abbey church in Horsens was built in 1270 and since the Reformation it has been used as parish church of Horsens.

Taiwan: Kaohsiung

On Thursday I got two postcards: one from Taiwan and one from Denmark.

The card from Taiwan shows the port of Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung is the second largest city of Taiwan. The port of Kaohsiung is the most important harbour of Taiwan.

Liechtenstein: Maxicards

On Thursday I got not only two postcards but also my ordered stamps and maxicards from Liechtenstein.

One of the maxicards shows an aerial view of Vaduz. Vaduz is the capital city and the second largest city of Liechtenstein. It houses the national parliament, the Landtag of Liechtenstein, and is the residential city of the Prince of Liechtenstein. The stamp is from a set of two and was issued on 10-11-2014. It is a joint issue with Singapore.


Another maxicard shows the princely family of Liechtenstein. The current reigning Prince of Liechtenstein is Hans-Adam II. In 1967 he married Countess Marie Aglaë Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau and together they have four children. He has reigned Liechtenstein since 1989. Since 2004 has his eldest son Alois of Liechtenstein looked as regent of Liechtenstein after the government affairs. The stamp was issued on 10-11-2014 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of reign of Prince Hans-Adam II.


The third maxicard shows the Pfälzerhütte. The Pfälzerhütte is located on the Bettlerjoch, 2108 metres above sea level. It was planned by the Federation of Palatinate Sections within the German and Austrian Alpine Association in 1925 and approved by the government of Liechtenstein in 1926. It was finally opened in 1928. Today it is owned by the Liechtenstein Alpine Association and is open for business from June to October. The stamp was issued on 14-06-2012 and is a joint issue with Germany. It bears the stamps of Germany and of Liechtenstein.


The last maxicard bears the stamp of the Year of the Sheep. It was issued on 10-11-2014.

Slovenia: Otočec Castle

Today I got a postcard from Slovenia.

It shows the Otočec Castle. The Otočec Castle is located on a small islet in the Krka River. It is Slovenia's only water castle. 


Stamps:
World War I Centenary (issued 28-11-2014)
During World War I was Slovenia a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 160,000 soldiers came from Slovenia to fight in the Slovene regiments. 35,000 to 40,000 of them were killed. The Battles of the Isonzo were fought in Slovenia. After World War I became Slovenia a part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, the later Yugoslavia.
The stamp shows the monument of Carniolan Janez, the unknown soldier, in Ljubljana. It was created in 1916 to remember the fallen Slovene soldiers buried outside of Slovenia.

India: Postcrossing Meet-up

Yesterday I got three postcards: one from India, one from Russia and one from France.

The card from India is the official card of the India Meet-up held on 25th January 2015 at the General Post Office in Mumbai. The card shows a map of India.

France: Church of St Joan of Arc in Rouen

Yesterday I got three postcards: one from France, one from India and one from Russia.

The card from France shows the Church of St Joan of Arc in Rouen. Rouen is a city in the Seine-Maritime department in the Upper Normandy region. It is located on the river Seine and was one of the largest and most prosperous European cities in the Middle Ages. In 1431 Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in Rouen. The Church of St Joan of Arc was built to remember her. It was built at the place were she was burned and the large cross marks the exact place. It was completed in 1979.

Germany: Sleeping Beauty

On Friday I got a postcard from Germany.

It shows an illustration of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty by the Brothers Grimm. The fairy tale was included in the first version of the Children’s and Household Tales and in all others. The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm belong to the most well-known German books. In 2005 they were added to the Memory of the World Register of the UNESCO.
I got this card a few weeks ago in an envelope.

France: Source du Lison

On Thursday I got a postcard from France.

It shows the source of the Lison in the region of Franche-Comté. The source of the Lison is a strong karstic spring in the Doubs department. Near Châtillon-sur-Lison flows the Lison in the Loue.

USA: Liberty Bonds poster

On Wednesday I got three postcards: one from the USA, one from Germany and one from France.

The card from the USA shows a World War I poster. It was created by Walter Whitehead in 1918 and advertises the purchase of liberty bonds. 
Liberty Bonds were war bonds sold by the USA to defray the costs of World War I. The purchasers were able to repurchase the liberty bonds for the original price plus interest. They were urgently required to pay for the warfare and they were highly advertised.

France: Lourdes

The card from France shows various views of Lourdes. Lourdes is located in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It is famous for Marian apparitions in 1858.

Germany: Mülheim an der Ruhr

On Wednesday I got three postcards: one from Germany, one from France and one from the USA.

The card from Germany shows various views of Mülheim an der Ruhr. Mülheim an der Ruhr is a big city in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1966 became Mülheim an der Ruhr the first city in the Ruhr District without coal mines. Famous museums in Mülheim an der Ruhr are the art museum (lower left corner), the museum of the past history of the film (lower row second from left) and the Aquarius water museum (upper right corner).

Australia: Big Merino

The card from Australia shows the Big Merino in Goulborn in New South Wales. It was unveiled in 1985 and houses a gift shop and a wool display.

Thailand: Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex

On Tuesday I got four postcards: three from Thailand and one from Australia.

One of the cards from Thailand shows the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex. The Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex is internationally important for the conservation of globally threatened and endangered animals. Since 2005 is the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Thailand: Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex

On Tuesday I got four postcards: three from Thailand and one from Australia.

One of the cards from Thailand shows the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex. The Kaeng Krachan National Park is the largest national park in Thailand. It seeks for the inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Thailand: Phuphrabat Historical Park

On Tuesday I got four postcards: three from Thailand and one from Australia.

One of the cards from Thailand shows the Phuphrabat Historical Park. The Phuphrabat Historical Park is famous for its unusual rock formations and its religious shrines. It seeks for the inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

EDIT: Phu Phrabat, a testimony to the Sīma stone tradition of the Dvaravati period, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2024.
