On 29th June I got three postcards: two from Germany and one from Japan.
One of the cards from Germany shows an European Hamster. The European Hamster is native to big parts of Eurasia, where it is mainly found in low-lying farmland. Its relation to the human is ambivalent. On the one hand it is widely considered a farmland pest, but on the other hand it has also been trapped for its fur. In both cases however it was brought on the brink of extinction. In 1996 and 2016 it was the German Animal of the Year.
I sent this card to myself with one of the two stamps from the latest set of the series Young Animals which also shows a Hamster (issued 10-06-2021). The special postmark is from Recklinghausen.
