Sam-Quito's Postmark Covers of June

My mail friend Sam-Quito from the USA is so nice to help me to get all the special postmarks available in his country and in the past had already sent me many great pieces. I cherish all those covers, but due to my super long absence I now have roughly eighty of those to upload here and instead that nearly every second post will show one of them, I decided to bundle them in monthly posts. Enjoy these beauties I got in June!

The first one arrived on 3rd June and bears four nice stamps about the Hawaii Missionary stamps (issued 24-10-2002), some of the most valuable stamps in the World. The postmark is about the Class of 2021 at the United States Military Academy.

In the cover was this rather psychodelic map of New Mexico.

On the same day arrived also this cover with a postmark of an epic looking horse that actually honours an atomic submarine.

The card inside shows some views of Los Cerrillos in New Mexico, a former mining town.

And the third cover of that day was all about winter sports. The postmark is about figure skating and the stamps honour ice hockey (issued 20-10-2017). These were a joint issue with Canada.

On the next day arrived two covers. The first has a postmark of the Kazoopex stamp show in Kalamazoo in Michigan.

You can learn a bit about the Scorpion on the card inside.

The postmark on the second cover honours another atomic submarine and the card inside tells you a bit about the Elk.

On 8th June arrived three more covers. On the first one were these two stamps about Supreme Court Justices (issued 22-09-2009), which show Felix Frankfurter and William Joseph Brennan. The third stamp shows former President James K. Polk (issued 02-11-1995). The postmark is about Police Gazette Belt Bare Knuckle Boxing. Unfortunately I was not able to figure out what that actually means.

The card inside shows the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, a narrow gauge heritage railroad in Colorado and New Mexico.

On the second cover the set of Supreme Court Justices is completed with Louis Brandeis and Joseph Story. It is nice to see a set solely devoted to justices. The third stamp shows senator Dennis Chávez (issued 03-04-1991). The postmark honours the reopening of a General Store in Albany, Vermont. This new store opened eight years after the old one was destroyed by a fire.

In the cover was this retro-looking card of the Route 66.

Three nice older stamps are on the third cover of that day and another of those often seen zip code meets date postmarks, this time from Bennett in Iowa. The first stamp is from a set of two about American Sign Language (issued 20-09-1993). In the middle is Junípero Serra (issued 22-08-1985), a Spanish Roman Catholic priest and missionary of the Franciscan Order known as Apostle of California, who is however also accused of the abuse of the Native American converts. The last stamp shows two Fischer's Lovebirds (issued 09-05-1991).

Another psychodelic map was in the cover. This one shows Arizona.

On 14th June arrived this cover with a special postmark about the Pony Express, which was once the fastest postal connection in the USA.

I like the card inside showing where you can find rare stones in the Southwestern part of the USA.

Two days later arrived this cover with a very nice special postmark. It celebrates an event for Peru's Bicentennial of Independence held at San Francisco's Treasure Island which had been created for the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939/40.

The card on the inside reads: "Ristra and Zig Zag: Doors, windows and gates are painted blue to ward off evil and are often decorated with ristras and carved designs such as this lightning bolt pattern."

On 21st June arrived this cover which is actually two covers, as the cover with special postmark was sent back to Sam-Quito and he forwarded it to me in a bigger outer cover. On the outer cover are four stamps which honour the Magna Carta (15-06-1965), Sam Houston (issued 10-01-1965) and Military Working Dogs (issued 01-08-2019). The postmark on the inner cover is from Montrose and shows a train. You can also see the label that it was not deliverable.

The card shows Petroglyphs, but unfortunately there is no location name on the card. It just says that they were done by Native Americans in Colorado and Utah.

On 28th June arrived this cover which bears three stamps similar to those justices above. These three show Distinguished American Diplomats (issued 30-05-2006), which is definitely another type of politicians that is rarely shown on stamps. In total there are six stamps in the set. The fourth stamp on the cover commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Marine Corps Reserve (issued 29-08-1966) and the postmark was used in conjunction with a recent stamp about Japanese-American Soldiers in World War II.

A view of Route 66 can be seen on the card inside.

One day later a cover arrived that was also sent in a larger outer cover. This time the outer cover however was used by the postal service. The stamps on the inner cover are from a set of eighteen tracing the evolution of the US Flag (issued 14-06-2000) and the postmark is about the Laurel Festival in Brookville. The card inside shows again the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad.

On the last cover of June that also arrived on 29th June a special postmark about the New York City Fleet Week was used. This is a nice postmark for my Covid-19 collection, as the event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The card inside this cover shows the Locomotive Park in Kingman in Arizona.

Thank You very much Sam-Quito!
