Germany: Queen Victoria on Stamps

On 21st September I got three postcards: two from Germany and one from Japan.

One of the cards from Germany I had bought on Redbubble and shows a portrait of Queen Victoria on a Mauritius Post Paid stamp. These stamps were issued after the famous Mauritius Post Office stamps, but I am not sure if they were really ever issued with perforation.

The main reason to buy and send this card was the stamp on the right. It shows a detail of the Bordeaux Cover (issued 02-09-2021), which bears a Red and a Blue Mauritius Post Office stamp and postmarks from many places on its route. Until 2014 this was the most expensive philatelic item in the World. Shortly before this stamp had been issued, a cover with only the red stamp was sold here in Germany for over 8million Euro. This stamp however is not connected to this auction, but to the International Stamp Exhibition in Essen. Actually this year the Stamp Day stamp was supposed to honour this stamp show, but as the show was postponed to 2023 due to Covid-19, another theme had to be chosen and they decided to show the Bordeaux Cover, which is supposed to be one of the highlights of the show. I also used another stamp with a philatelic portrait of Queen Victoria. This one was issued for the 175th anniversary of the Penny Black (issued 01-09-2015).
