Sam-Quito's Postmark Covers of September

It is already time again to show you the next month of Sam-Quito's covers. These are the covers of September.

The first two covers of the month arrived on 3rd September. I like this postmark about 50th anniversary of Apollo 15 showing the Lunar Roving Vehicle. It comes from Pittsburgh, the birth town of James Irwin who during this mission became the eight man on the moon. The stamp on the right is from a set of four about the Pan-American Inverts (issued 29-03-2001). The other stamp is about the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles (issued 08-04-1983).

The card shows a view of the Interstate 40 in Tijeras Canyon, which follows the former Route 66.

The other cover of the day got a postmark of the Wilkpex Stamp Exhibition. The right stamp is from a set of sixteen about the 500th anniversary of Columbus' First Journey to America (issued 22-05-1992) and the other stamp is about Volunteers (issued 20-04-1983).

The card explaines how the fossilised trees in the Petrified Forest National Park were created.

This cover of the 10th September bears five stamps. The first was issued shortly after the First Moon Landing (issued 09-09-1969), below is an Eastern Bluebird (issued 22-06-1991), next is an old stamp about George Washington and on the right are two from a set of five called Enjoy The Great Outdoors (issued 13-06-2020). The postmark is a Date Meets ZIP postmark from Cortez.

Inside was another card from the Petrified Forest National Park.

One day later came this cover with New York Times publisher Adolph S. Ochs (issued 18-09-1976), President Abraham Lincoln (issued 12-02-1959) and two proponents of the Harlem Renaissance, Arturo Schomburg and Anne Spencer (issued 21-05-2020). The postmark shows Clara Luper, a retired schoolteacher and a pioneering leader in the American Civil Rights Movement best known for her leadership role in the 1958 Oklahoma City sit-in movement.

The card shows an old travel poster, but nowhere is written where this place is.

On 15th September arrived this cover with the other two stamps from the Harlem Renaissance set showing Alain Locke and Nella Larsen. The other stamps show "Lady Writing Letter" by Gerard Terborch from a set of eight about the Centenary of the World Postal Union (issued 06-06-1974) and an old view of the White House (issued 11-07-1938). The postmark about a Fudge Festival looks interesting and delicious.

The card shows a view of Taos Pueblo, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Another cover of the 15th September bears other stamps from the Universal Postal Union and the Enjoy The Great Outdoors sets as well as two stamps about the Centenary of the Boys' Clubs of America Movement (issued 18-10-1960) and the Centenary of the Women's Suffrage (issued 22-08-2020). The postmark shows a lighthouse.

In the cover was one more card of the Petrified Forest National Park.

On 18th September two covers arrived. On this cover are six stamps about US Presidents. They are from a set of 36 issued for the Ameripex 1986 showing 35 presidents and the White House (issued 22-05-1986). The postmark comes from a stamp show in Baltimore.

The card shows a Geologic Map of New Mexico.

On the other cover of the day are five more presidents, the White House and a postmark from the Wild River Valley Antique Association.

The card inside shows a view of El Paso. El Paso is the 23rd-largest city in the USA, the sixth-largest city in Texas, the second-largest city in the Southwestern USA and the second-largest majority-Hispanic city in the USA.

On 21st September arrived this cover with a set about the Negro Leagues Baseball (issued 15-07-2010) and a postmark about the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The other stamp is from a set of five about Famous Trains (issued 26-08-1999).

The card shows some views of California.

This cover of the 23rd September bears six more US Presidents and a postmark from a Sandwich Fair.

The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad shown on the card is a narrow-gauge heritage railroad in Colorado. Originally opened in 1882 to transport silver and gold ore mined from the San Juan Mountains, the line has run continuously since then, although it is now a tourist and heritage line hauling passengers. It is one of the few places in the USA which has seen continuous use of steam locomotives.

One day later came this cover with another Universal Postal Union stamp and two about Ruth Aiko Asawa (issued 13-08-2020).

The present San Geronimo Chapel at Taos is shown on the card. It was completed in 1850 after the original chapel was destroyed in 1847. Interestingly the special postmark was only applied to the postmark and not the cover.

On 28th September arrived a cover from the Homestead Festival in Princeton. The left stamp shows Gerard David's Virgin and Child from the National Gallery and on the right are two stamps from a set of five about Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic (issued 06-08-2021).

The card shows a Red-Tailed Hawk.

On the last day of September arrived four more covers. On this cover are two stamps from a set of four about Western Wear (issued 23-07-2021) and a postmark with a strange goat. Also there is a small stamp with Sinclair Lewis (issued 21-03-1985). Lewis was a writer and playwright who was the first American to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. One of his best known works is probably It Can't Happen Here, a 1935 dystopian political novel that describes the rise of a US dictator similar to how Adolf Hitler gained power.

In the cover was this interesting card of Window Rock in Arizona. The rock formation on the card is actually called Windoe Rock, but it also gave to the city of Window Rock, which is the capital of the Navajo Nation. The smaller image in the lower right corner shows the Navajo Nation Code Talker Memorial. It was erected in honour of those Navarajo serving in World War II, who used their native language as secret "code" to transmit tactical messages.

The second cover of the day bears more stamps about the Universal Postal Union and Ruth Asawa as well as a postmark about the 50th anniversary of USPS.

The card shows the same image as one of the cards above, but has a different inscription.

The next cover got more Western Wear and another Date Meets ZIP postmark. The other stamp shows Julia Ward Howe (issued 12-02-1987). Howe was a poetress and social activist for abolitionism and Women's Suffrage.

The Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon are shown on the card.

The last cover of the day and month bears three stamps. On the right are two recent stamps, one from the set of Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic and one from a set of five about Tap Dancing (issued 10-07-2021). The other stamp is a cute little Christmas stamp (issued 18-10-1979). The postmark is from a car convention.

The last card of the month shows the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the largest balloon festival in the World.

Thank You very much Sam-Quito!
