Lunar New Year Sheets from the Åland Islands

On Friday I got my stamp order from the Åland Islands.

From Åland I ordered the souvenir sheets about the Year of the Mouse (issued 24-10-2019), the Year of the Dog (issued 10-11-2017) and the Year of the Rooster (issued 11-11-2016).

Stamp Order from Macao

Last Tuesday I got my stamp order from Macao.

Among others I bought a stamp set about the Year of the Rooster, which was issued on 5th January 2017.


I also bought a set of maxicards about Mulan. The stamps were issued on 8th April 2016.

China: Year of the Rooster

On Wednesday I got four postcards: one from China, one from Turkey and two from the Czech Republic.

The card from China is a maxicard about the Year of the Rooster. The stamp is from a set of two and was issued on 5th January 2017.

Ukraine: Petrykivka painting

On Monday I got four postcards: two from Ukraine and two from Germany.

One of the cards from Ukraine shows a Petrykivka painting of a rooster. Petrykivka paintings originated in the 17th century and were used to decorate house walls and everyday household items. They usually depict flowers and animals based on careful observation of the local flora and fauna. Since 2013 is the Petrykivka painting an Intangible Heritage of the UNESCO.

Serbia: Novi Sad

On Friday I got three postcards: one from Serbia, one from Canada and one from Italy.

The card from Serbia shows the Town Hall of Novi Sad. Novi Sad is the second largest city of Serbia and the capital of the autonomous province of Vojvodina. In 2021 it will be the European Capital of Culture.

Philippines: Paoay Church

On Saturday I got four postcards: one from the Philippines, one from France, one from Germany and one from Canada.

The card from the Philippines shows the Paoay Church. The Paoay Church is a Roman Catholic church. It was built between 1694 and 1710 in a combination of Baroque and Javanese architecture. As one of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines it is since 1993 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The card from Indonesia is a maxicard about the Year of the Rooster. The stamp is from a set of three and was issued on 21st January 2017.

Singapore: Year of the Rooster

On Wednesday I got two postcards: one from Singapore and one from Thailand.

The card from Singapore was printed to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.

New Zealand: Plimmerton

On Tuesday I got four postcards: one from New Zealand, one from the USA, one from France and one from Hong Kong.

The card from New Zealand shows shells from Plimmerton's beaches. Plimmerton is a suburb of the city of Porirua neighbouring some of the city's best beaches. The suburb was founded in the 19th century as seaside resort.

Slovenia: Upper Carniola Region

On Saturday I got two postcards: one from Slovenia and one from Belgium.

The card from Slovenia shows various views of the Upper Carniola Region. The Upper Carniola Region is a traditional region in northwest Slovenia. It is home to many mountains and a popular destination for tourists. Parts of the Triglav National Park, Slovenia's only national park, and the Bled Island, Slovenia's only real island, are located in the region.

Centenary of World War I (issued 04-11-2016)
The stamp shows Anton Koželj's postcard number 97 in the War in Pictures series. During World War I postcards were used as element of propaganda to strengthen patriotic feelings. War in Pictures was a series of Slovene postcards printed during the war, which often included lines from Slovene poets and various national motifs.
Svetozar Boroević von Bojna, the left man on the card, was an Austro-Hungarian field marshal. He was in charge during the Isonzo Battles and the Battle of the Piave River and is said to have been one of the finest defensive strategists of World War I.

Canada: Toronto

On Thursday I got a postcard from Canada.

It shows various views of Toronto. Toronto is the largest city of Canada and the capital of the Province of Ontario. Inhabited for thousands of years, the modern city was founded in 1793. Today it is a global city and centre of business and culture.

Malaysia: George Town

Last Saturday I got three postcards: two from Malaysia and one from Thailand.

The cards from Malaysia show George Town. George Town was founded by the British East India Company in 1786 as one of the first British settlements in South East Asia. It was once an important trading post between Asia and Europe and is today known for its multi-cultural heritage with unique architecture, cuisine and culture. The city is today also the capital of the Malaysian State of Penang and Malaysia's second largest town. George Town and Melaka, the Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca, are since 2008 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

USA: NASA

Last Wednesday I got two postcards: one from the USA and one from Germany.

The card from the USA honours some of the greatest successes of the NASA. The NASA is an agency responsible for the civilian space program and the aerospace research. It was founded in 1958.

Vietnam: Citadel of the Ho Dynasty

On Monday I got three postcards: one from Vietnam, one from the TAAF and one from China.

The card from Vietnam shows a dragon decoration from the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty. The Citadel of the Ho Dynasty was built in the 14th century according to feng shui principles. It is an outstanding example of a new style of South East Asian imperial city and testifies to the flowering of neo-Confucianism in Vietnam. Since 2011 is the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

South Korea: Christmas Greetings

Today I got two postcards: one from South Korea and one from Myanmar.

The card from South Korea is a Christmas card.


On the backside there are two special postmarks, one about the DMZ and one about the Year of the Rooster.

The stamp was printed with Gold Hot Foiling, Holographic Foil and Embossing.

Taiwan: Xiaoyoukeng

On Monday I got two postcards: one from Taiwan and one from Germany.

The card from Taiwan shows Xiaoyoukeng. Xiaoyoukeng is a post-volcanic geological park in the Yangmingshan National Park. It is known for its hot springs and sulphur crystals.
The stamp on the front side celebrates the Year of the Rooster (issued 01-12-2016) and was cancelled with a special postmark.


On the backside there is the complete set of the Year of the Rooster stamps.
