Thank You very much Felicia!

5th November 2022: New York City, USA

The card was sent by my father during a trip to the city and he also bought some more cards for me.

4th November 2022: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, USA

A wonderful stamp about Ursula K. Le Guin (issued 27-07-2021) was used on this card. Le Guin was an American authoress of speculative fiction. Her most famous works are part of her cycles of Earthsea (Fantasy) and Hainish (Science Fiction). Shown on the stamp is a scene from The Left Hand of Darkness.

22nd September 2022: First Images from the James Webb Telescope, USA

The James Webb Space Telescope is a space telescope designed to conduct infrared astronomy. Its high-resolution and high-sensitivity instruments allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. This enables investigations across many fields of astronomy and cosmology, such as observation of the first stars and the formation of the first galaxies, and detailed atmospheric characterization of potentially habitable exoplanets. It was launched on 25 December 2021 on an Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou, French Guiana and arrived at its destination in January 2022. The telescope's first image was released to the public on 11 July 2022. NASA led Webb's design and development and partnered with the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency. The telescope is named after James E. Webb, who was the administrator of NASA from 1961 to 1968 during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.

A wonderful matching stamp with special postmark was used on the card. Truely a treasure in every collection.

Thank You very much Jessica!

USA: Majestic Apartments

On 13th May I got four postcards: one from the USA, two from Austria and one from Germany.

The card from the USA shows the Majestic Apartments in New York City. The Majestic Apartments is a cooperative apartment building adjacent to the Central Park. It was constructed from 1930 to 1931 in the Art Deco style and is 30 stories tall.

Five stamps were used on this card. For me the most noteworthy is the green stamp about Shel Silverstein's famous picture book The Giving Tree (issued 08-04-2022). A great addition to my collection of Childhood Heroes on Stamps! The other stamps show Strawberries (issued 05-05-2017), an artwork by George Morrison (issued 22-04-2022) and a Barn (issued 14-04-2022) and celebrate the Centenary of the International Telecommunication Union (issued 06-10-1965).

Thank You very much Patrick!

covers from the USA

On 21st December I got five covers including two from the USA.

Both covers from the USA travelled very long. This one was postmarked on 30th July. Used on this one were stamps about Bart, Maggie and Lisa Simpson (issued 07-05-2009). I said it before and will say it again, but these are among my favourite stamps of all time. The postmark is from the Westpex Stamp Exhibition in California.

The card in the cover shows the De Vargas Street House in Santa Fe. The De Vargas Street House is said to be one of the oldest buildings in the USA, but most likely just dates to the 17th century or younger.

Homer and Marge used here complete the Simpsons set. The other stamp shows Cal Farley (issued 26-04-1996), a professional wrestler and businessman. The postmark is about Rodeos in Fortuna.

The card shows a scene of traditional bread making.

Thank You very much Sam-Quito!

cover from the USA

On 4th December I got not only a postcard but also two covers from the USA.

One of them bears two stamps from a set of eight about Backyard Games (issued 12-08-2021) and one with a Beach Umbrella (issued 03-02-1990).

First and foremost the cover included five postal cards. The first two are about Comic Strip Classics and the others about America the Beautiful.

Also in the cover was this card about Fort Bowie. Fort Bowie was used as army outpost during fights with Native Americans for thirty years between 1864 and 1894. Located in Arizona, it is protected as National Historic Site.

Thank You very much Sam-Quito!

Sam-Quito's Postmark Covers of November

Reached the end of another month of mail, so it is time to show the covers received by Sam-Quito. I am now just three weeks behind with being up to date. Beginning for December I will show the covers again separately, so last post of this kind.

On 5th November arrived this cover on which two stamps from a set of sixteen called Go Green (issued 14-04-2011) were used. The interesting postmark celebrates the 500th anniversary of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. I have recently already got the official cover produced for this anniversary (click here).

The card shows Acoma Pueblo near Albuquerque. Also known as Sky City, this is believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited town in the USA.

This cover arrived on 20th November. The right stamps honour Ruth Aiko Asawa (issued 13-08-2020), an American sculptor best known for her wire sculptures, and the other stamp is from a set of eight about the 150th of the Universal Postal Union (issued 06-06-1974). It shows an artwork by Jean Siméon Chardin. Another interesting postmark was used here. It is about the Alaska State Fair and shows Big Foot.

The card shows the University of New Mexico. The University of New Mexico is a public research university founded in 1889 and has roughly 25000 students. Its main campus is in Albuquerque, but there are also branches in Gallup, Los Alamos, Los Lunas, Rio Rancho and Taos.

On 26th November arrived this cover with six stamps about US Presidents. They are from a set of 36 issued for the Ameripex 1986 showing 35 presidents and the White House (issued 22-05-1986). The postmark is about the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion.

In the cover was this card about the Sandia Peak Tramway. This aerial tramway has the World's third longest single span, is the longest aerial tram in the Americas and was the longest in the World from 1966 until being surpassed in 2010.

On 27th November arrived this big cover from Omaha. Inside were three covers.

The first cover bears three stamps about Roses (issued 11-07-1978), the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower in Plymouth Harbour (issued 17-09-2020) and a Mystery Message (issued 14-07-2021). Can you read what is written on the it? A strange theme for a stamp. I really like the postmark about Covid-19 vaccinations.

The card shows hot air ballons in Albuquerque.

The second cover got six more Presidents and a baseball postmark.

The card in this cover shows the Pueblo Bonito, the largest and best-known great house in Chaco Culture National Historical Park, which is since 1987 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The third and last cover for the month got six Presidents more and a second Baseball postmark.

This card shows the grave of Billy the Kid, one of the most famous Wild West persons.

Thank You very much Sam-Quito!

One of them shows the Hollywood Sign. Hollywood is a neighbourhood of Los Angeles and synonymous with the US movie industry and its stars. The famous sign was erected in 1923 to advertise real estate developers.

The stamp on the left is from a series about American Architecture and shows the Philadelphia Exchange by William Strickland (issued 04-06-1979). The other two stamps are from a recent set of ten about Garden Flowers (issued 23-02-2021).

Thank You very much Sam-Quito!

USA: Interstate 10

On 23rd November I got two postcards from the USA.

One of them shows the Interstate 10 in Los Angeles. The Interstate 10 is the southernmost cross-country highway in the American Interstate Highway System. It connects Santa Monica in California and Jacksonville in Florida via Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso, Houston, New Orleans and Tallahassee.

The stamp on the left is from a series about American Architecture and shows the Boston State House by Charles Bulfinch (issued 04-06-1979). The other two stamps are from a recent set of ten about Garden Flowers (issued 23-02-2021).
