Indonesia: Malayan Tapir

Last Monday I got three postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows a Malayan Tapir. The Malayan Tapir is the largest of the five species of tapir and the only one native to Asia. It was once found throughout the tropical lowland rainforests of Southeast Asia, but due to human activity it is today in danger of extinction.

Indonesia: Ombilin Coal Mine

Last Monday I got three postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows the Ombilin Coal Mine. The Ombilin Coal Mine is the oldest coal mining site in Southeast Asia. Coal was discovered in this inaccesible region of Sumatra by Dutch engineer Willem Hendrik de Greve in 1868 and since then this industrial site was developed by the Netherlands East Indies' government in the globally important period of industrialisation from the late 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. Apart from the mine itself the site also includes a company town, storage facilities and a railway network for the transport. It is an outstanding testimony of exchange and fusion between local knowledge and practices and European technology. Since 2019 is the Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Indonesia: National Museum of Indonesia

Last Monday I got three postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows a Wayang puppet from the collection of the National Museum of Indonesia in Jakarta. The National Museum of Indonesia dates back to 1778. Today it is considered to be one of the most complete and best museums in Indonesia and its broad collections of nearly 150000 archeological, historical, ethnological and geographical objects cover all of Indonesia's territory and almost all of its history. Also it is said to be one of the finest museums in complete Southeast Asia.

Indonesia: Museum Huta Bolon Simanindo

On Friday I got five postcards: one from Indonesia, one from Japan, two from Germany and one from the Philippines.

The card from Indonesia shows the Museum Huta Bolon Simanindo. The Museum Huta Bolon Simanindo is located on Samosir Island. It is housed in a traditional house that once belonged to a Batak king and his 14 wives.

Indonesia: Borobudur

On Friday I got three postcards: one from Indonesia, my first card from Mongolia and one from the Netherlands

The card from Indonesia shows Borobudur. Borobudur is the largest Buddhist monument in the World. It was built in the 9th century and originally there where 504 Buddhas, but today many of them are damaged and some are lost. Borobudur is since 1991 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Indonesia: Bank Indonesia Museum

Last Wednesday I got four postcards: one from Indonesia, one from Sweden, one from Crimea and one from Austria.

The card from Indonesia shows the Bank Indonesia Museum in Jakarta. The Bank Indonesia Museum is a museum about the history of the money in Indonesia. It was opened in 2009 and is housed in the former headquarters of the central bank of the Dutch East Indies.

Indonesia: Tintin

On Saturday I got two postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock and a Komodo Dragon. Tintin and his friends came to Indonesia in their 22nd adventure, Flight 714. Although most of the story takes place on the fictious island Bompa, Tintin and the others have a stopover in Jakarta and also Bompa is inspired by Indonesia with a Komodo Dragon and a Proboscis Monkey living there.

Indonesia: 18th Asian Games

On Saturday I got two postcards from Indonesia.

One of them shows the mascots of the 18th Asian Games. The 18th Asian Games were held in Jakarta and Palembang between the 18th August and 2nd September 2018. It was the second time that Jakarta hosted the Asian Games and the first time that the Asian Games were co-hosted in two cities. During the games North and South Korea competed as a unified team in some events.

cover from Indonesia

Between Tuesday and Thursday I was not at home and during that time I got three covers including one from Indonesia.

With nice stamps:
Asian Games (four from set of nine) (issued 18-01-2018)


Inside were three Indonesian postcards.

The first one is a written and stamped maxicard about the Year of the Dog. Indonesia's three stamps were issued on 1st February 2018.



The second one shows the Old Town of Semarang. Semarang is a city on Java. It is the capital and largest city of the province of Central Java and the fifth largest city of Indonesia. When Indonesia was a Dutch colony, it was an important port. Today the city is still famous for its many Dutch colonial buildings and seeks for the inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.


The third one shows the Semanggi Interchange in Jakarta. The Semanggi Incerchange is a major road junction.

Indonesia: Arabian Jasmine

On Friday I got a postcard from Indonesia.

The card shows Arabian Jasmines. The Arabian Jasmine is native to a small region in the Himalayas, but is cultivated all around the World. It is one of the three national flowers of Indonesia.

Indonesia: Flag

On Thursday I got two postcards: one from Indonesia and one from New Zealand.

The card from Indonesia shows the country's Flag. The Flag of Indonesia was adopted in 1945 and is based on the banner of the Majapahit Empire from the 13th century. In Indonesia it is known as Sang Merah-Putih, The Red-and-White. The Flag is identical to the Flag of Monaco.

Indonesia: Pura Ulun Danu Bratan

Last Tuesday I got five postcards: one from Indonesia, two from China, one from Croatia and one from Japan.

The card from Indonesia shows the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan. The Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is a major Shivaite and water temple on Bali. It is located in Lake Bratan, a main source of irrigation. As part of the Cultural Landscape of the Bali Province it is since 2012 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

On 4th August I got not only four postcards but also a cover from Indonesia.

Inside were five postcards, one written and stamped card and four unwritten cards.

The written and stamped card shows the Adityawarman Museum in Padang. The Adityawarman Museum is a museum about the culture of Western Sumatra. It was opened in 1977.


Stamp:

The stamp is covered with real leather. 


The four unwritten cards show scenes from three Studio Ghibli movies. The featured movies are Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky.

The card from Indonesia shows the Jakarta History Museum. The Jakarta History Museum shows more than 20000 exhibits about the history of the Jakarta region. It was opened in 1974 and is housed in the former City Hall of Batavia.

Indonesia: Museum Mandala Bhakti

On Tuesday I got two postcards: one from Indonesia and one from Singapore.

The card from Indonesia shows the Museum Mandala Bhakti. The Museum Mandala Bhakti is located in Semarang. In its exhibitions it shows various military artifacts. It was opened in 1985.


Stamps:
66 years diplomatic relations with Thailand (whole set) (issued 05-05-2016)
It is a joint issue with Thailand.
The stamps were issued with and without hologram. The left stamp is without hologram and the right is with hologram.
