7th August 2023: Museum Koenig in Bonn, Germany

The Museum Koenig in Bonn is a natural history museum and zoological research institution. It was opened in 1934. In 1948 the museum saw the opening of the Parlamentarischer Rat, the organ to create the German constitution.

Haus Bürgel in Monheim am Rhein, Germany

Haus Bürgel is a medieval manor built on the remains of a Roman castell. Since 2003 it is home to an archaeological museum. The still visible Roman remains are as part of the Lower Germanic Limes since 2021 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

26th June 2023: Benrath Palace, Germany

The Benrath Palace was built from 1755 to 1773 by Nicolas de Pigage at the behest of Elector Palatine Charl Theodor. It was built in a combination of Baroque, Rococo and Classicism. Since 2002 the east wing houses the Museum for European Garden Art, while the west wing houses the Museum of Natural History.

20th June 2023: Stahlhof in Düsseldorf, Germany

The Stahlhof in Düsseldorf was built between 1906 and 1908 as a representative headquarters of the German Stahlwerksverband. When the Ruhr area was occupied by French troops between 1921 and 1925, they used the Stahlhof as command centre and after World War II the building was used by the British forces as official residence of the Regional Commissioner of the North Rhine Province. In 1946 the treaties that formed the state of North Rhine-Westphalia were signed in the Stahlhof. Today it is used as an administrative court.

20th June 2023: Langen Foundation in Neuss, Germany

The Langen Foundation is a museum of modern and Oriental art in Neuss. It was founded in 2002 and is housed in a building designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

12th June 2023: Field Railway Museum Rommerskirchen-Oekoven, Germany

The Field Railway Museum Rommerskirchen-Oekoven was founded in 1976. It operates a 1 km long museum railway.

My Trip to the IBRA International Stamp Fair in Essen

On 28th May 2023 I went to Essen to attend the IBRA International Stamp Fair. It was a truely great event for stamp collectors and different international stamp dealers and postal administrations were present. I bought some wonderful additions, old and new, for my collections.
