22nd June 2023: Bregenz Forest Railway, Austria

The Bregenz Forest Railway is a narrow gauge railway. From 1902 to 1983 it linked Bregenz on Lake Constance with Bezau in the Bregenz Forest. Today only a short section is still worked as a heritage railway. The remaining line has been closed and largely lifted.

Thank You very much Anita!

Austria: Hydrant

On 21st June I got a postcard from Austria.

It shows a hydrant.

Also the stamp (issued 18-06-2021) and the First Day Special Postmark show hydrants.

Austria: Vorarlberg

On 5th October I got two postcards: one from Austria and one from France.

The card from Austria shows a map of Vorarlberg. Vorarlberg is Austria's westernmost as well as second smallest state. The capital is Bregenz and the largest city is Dornbirn. After World War I Vorarlberg was hoping to join Switzerland.

The card was sent on World Postcard Day with a thematic personalised stamp.

On the same day I also got a cover from Austria cancelled on World Postcard Day.

Thank You very much Anita!

Austria: Canaletto

On 15th September I got two postcards: one from Austria and one from Germany.

Used on the card from Austria was a stamp showing the Dogana of Venice on a vedute by Canaletto from the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The postmark shows a portrait of Canaletto.

The postcard shows a different painting of Canaletto.

 Thank You very much Anita!

Austria: Bregenz

On Tuesday I got four postcards: one from Austria, one from the United Arab Emirates, one from Kazakhstan and one from Australia.

The card from Austria shows various views of Bregenz. Bregenz is the capital and third largest city of the Austrian State of Vorarlberg. It is also Austria's most important port on Lake Constance. It is especially famous for the annual Bregenz Festival.

Unfortunately the card was sent from Germany.

Thank You very much Bettina!
