Germany: Upper Harz Water Management System

Today I got six postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Upper Harz Water Management System. The Upper Harz Water Management System was used over a period of 800 years to supply the mines with water. Since 2010 is the Upper Harz Water Management System in the course of the extension of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mines to Rammelsberg and Historic Town of Goslar on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Germany: Eulenspiegel Fountain in Mölln

Today I got six postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Eulenspiegel Fountain in Mölln. Mölln is a city in Schleswig-Holstein. It is known as Eulenspiegel city as it is said that the medieval trickster Till Eulenspiegel spent his last year of life in Mölln and finally died there with plague. The Eulenspiegel Fountain was created by Karlheinz Goedtke and was unveiled in 1950.

Germany: Samson Pit

Today I got a postcard from Germany.

It shows the Samson Pit in Sankt Andreasberg in Lower Saxony. The Samson Pit is a historic silver mine and houses the last working man engine in the World. It was in operation from 1521 to 1910 and has a depth of 810m. Since 2010 is the Samson Pit in the course of the extension of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mines to Rammelsberg and Historic Town of Goslar on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

On the backside of the card are two seals. One of them is from the Harzer Roller Canary Museum. The Harzer Roller Canary Museum opened in 2001 in one of the buildings of the Samson Pit and shows history, breeding and keeping of Harz Rollers. The Harz Roller is a bird used for additional income of miners and as alarm of carbon monoxide in mines.

Germany: Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe

Today I got five postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel. Kassel is the third largest city of Hesse and was once the capital of the Electorate of Hesse. Kassel houses the World's largest exhibition of contemporary art. The Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe was begun in 1689 by Landgrave Carl of Hesse-Kassel and depicts the ideals of absolutist Monarchy and the aesthetics of the Baroque and Romantic periods. Since 2013 is the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Germany: St Michael's Church in Hildesheim

Today I got five postcards from Germany.

One of them shows St Michael's Church in Hildesheim. The St Michael's Church was built from 1010 and 1020 in the Ottonian Romanesque style. In 2012 the St Michael's Church was shown on a German commemorative coin. Since 1985 is the St Michael's Church together with the Hildesheim Cathedral on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Germany: Marksburg

Today I got five postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Marksburg near Braubach. The Marksburg was first mentioned in 1231 and was reshaped in the Gothic style since 1283. The Marksburg was never destroyed and nearly looks like in the 13th century. Since 1931 houses the Marksburg the German Castle Association and since 2002 it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

I got this card a few weeks ago in an envelope.

Germany: Thomaskirche and Bach Monument

Today I got five postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Thomaskirche and the Bach Monument in Leipzig. The Thomaskiche is famous as place of activity of Johann Sebastian Bach and Martin Luther. At Pentecost in 1539 Martin Luther gave the sermon at the Thomaskirche and thus introduced the Reformation to Saxony. Johann Sebastian Bach became in 1723 the chanter of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. In 1950 the remains of Bach were translated to the Thomaskirche.

Today I got five postcards from Germany.

One of them shows the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. The Thomaskirche was built from 1212 to 1222 as abbey church of the Augustians. Today is the Thomaskirche one of the two main churches of Leipzig. The Thomaskirche is famous for the St. Thomas Boys Choir.

Japan: Peter Rabbit

Today I got eight postcards: one from Japan, five from Germany, one from Taiwan and one from Denmark

The card from Japan shows Peter Rabbit. The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a British children's book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter. It was published in 1902 and is today one of the best-selling books of all time.

The card from Denmark shows Danish Castles. It shows Christiansborg, Kronborg, Egeskov Castle, Amalienborg, Rosenborg, Frederiksborg and Fredensborg.

Germany: Ludwigslust Palace

Today I got eight postcards: five from Germany, one from Taiwan, one from Denmark and one from Japan.

One of the cards from Germany shows Ludwigslust Palace. Ludwiglust Palace was built at the behest of Duke Friederich near the hunting lodge of his father. From 1763 to 1837 was Ludwigslust the main residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The Baroque palace was built from 1772 to 1776 by Johann Joachim Busch based on the model of Versailles.

One of the cards from Germany shows Hiddensee. Hiddensee is a German island in the Baltic Sea and car-free. It is located within the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park

Germany: Görlitz

Today I got eight postcards: five from Germany, one from Taiwan, one from Denmark and one from Japan.

One of the cards from Germany shows Görlitz. Görlitz is a city in Saxony and Germany's eastern most city. The city is located at the Lusatian Neisse and after World War II the the city was divided between Germany and Poland. The Polish part now forms the city Zgorzelec. Görlitz is also known for its many cultural monuments ranging through all stages of Central European settlement development.
