Germany: Norderney

Today I got two postcards from Germany.

One of them shows Norderney. Norderney is one of the seven populated East Frisian Islands. It is located in the North Sea and belongs to the German state of Lower Saxony. It is Germany's tenth-largest island.

I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Stamp:
Centenary of World War I (issued 07-08-2014)
with a special postmark about Poppe Folkerts
Poppe Folkerts was born in 1875 on Norderney, where he also died in 1949. He was one of Germany's most important marine painters. During World War I he went as war artist to the Western front. His paintings were used in the Illustrirte Zeitung, a newspaper from Leipzig.

Today I got not only two postcards from Germany but also a cover from Australia.

The cover is prepaid and was cancelled with a special postmark on 28th September 1981.

Inside were two postcards.
One of them shows the Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse.

The other card is the official card of the Postcrossing Meet-up held on 18th April 2015 in Sydney. It shows the Sydney Harbour Bridge as well as a mark of the Centenary of ANZAC.

On the backside are the signatures of all attendees and also a private Postcrossing stamp with a special postmark about the Sydney Stamp Expo and the ANZAC Centenary.

United Kingdom: Cairngorms National Park

Today I got a postcard from the United Kingdom.

It shows the mountains Cairn Toul, Sgor an Lochain Uaine and Lairig Ghru in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. The Cairngorms are the highest, coldest and snowiest plateau in the British Isles. Five of Scotland's six highest mountains belong to the Cairngorms.

On the backside of the card is also a seal of the UK's highest post box located in the Cairngorms.

Malaysia: Giant Panda at the Zoo Negara

Today I got a postcard from Malaysia.

It shows one of the Giant Pandas from the Zoo Negara, the National Zoo of Malaysia, in Ulu Klang in the Malaysian State of Selangor. The Zoo Negara is home to more than 5000 animals of over 450 species and is thus the largest zoo in Malaysia. It opened in 1963. Since 2014 houses the zoo two Giant Pandas. They are called Liang Liang (female) and Xing Xing (male). The card shows Liang Liang. They came to Malaysia to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia and will stay there for ten years.

Canada: Giant Panda at the Toronto Zoo

Today I got four postcards: one from Canada, one from France, one from the United Kingdom and one from India.

The card from Canada shows one of the Giant Pandas from the Toronto Zoo. The Toronto Zoo is home to more than 5000 animals of over 450 species and is thus the largest zoo in Canada. It opened in 1974. Since 2013 houses the zoo two Giant Pandas. They are called Da Mao (male) and Er Shun (female). The card shows Er Shun. They are on a 10-year Canada tour and will stay in Toronto until 2018, when they will move to Calgary.

India: Government Museum in Chennai

Today I got four postcards: one from India, one from Canada, one from France and one from the United Kingdom.

The card from India shows an exhibit from the Bronze Gallery of the Government Museum in Chennai. Chennai is the capital of the Indian State of Tamil Nadu and the sixth largest city of India. It is one of Lonely Planet's top 10 cities for 2015. The Government Museum was founded in 1851 and is thus the second oldest museum in India. It has rich collections of archaeological and numismatic artifacts and the largest collection of Roman antiquities outside Europe.

United Kingdom: Edinburgh

Today I got four postcards: one from the United Kingdom, one from India, one from Canada and one from France.

The card from the United Kingdom shows a view of Edinburgh. Edinburgh is the capital and second largest city of Scotland. It is also the seventh largest city of the United Kingdom. The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are since 1995 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Nicole Girard-Mangin was born in Paris in 1878. She was the only female doctor serving in World War I. She died in 1919.

It is a joint issue with Belgium.

After German forces occupied Belgium a Belgian Exile Government was installed in Saint-Adresse in October 1914. It stayed there until November 1918. The leader of the government was Charles de Broqueville. The Belgian King Albert I stayed in the non-occupied part of Belgium and never visited Saint-Adresse.

Czech Republic: St. Bartholomew's Cathedral in Plzeň

Today I got a postcard from the Czech Republic.

The card shows the St. Bartholomew's Cathedral in Plzeň. Plzeň is a city in western Bohemia and the fourth largest city of the Czech Republic. It is known for the Pilsner beer and the headquarters of the Škoda Works. Plzeň is the European Capital of Culture in 2015 together with Mons in Belgium. The St. Bartholomew's Cathedral has the tallest spire in the Czech Republic and is the third highest building in the Czech Republic. Since 1993 is the St. Bartholomew's Cathedral the cathedral of the Diocese of Plzeň.

Germany: Naturhistorisches Museum in Braunschweig

Today I got three postcards: one from Germany, one from Estonia and one from South Korea.

The card from Germany shows the Naturhistorisches Museum in Braunschweig. The Naturhistorisches Museum opened in 1754 and is thus Germany's oldest natural history museum. 

I sent this card after I recently visited this museum.

Another card I bought at the museum shows the otter sculpture, which stands in front of the museum.

The other cards show dioramas from the museum. The featured animals are the Badger, the Boar, the Capercaillie, the Curlew and the Eagle Owl.

Kuwait: Kuwait City

Yesterday I got four postcards: my first card from Kuwait, one from Germany, one from France and one from Finland.

Kuwait is an Arab country in Western Asia bordering on Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Kuwait has a petroleum-based economy.

The card shows Kuwait City. Kuwait City is the capital of Kuwait and also its cultural, ecological and political centre.

Finland: Moomin Characters

Yesterday I got four postcards: one from Finland, my first card from Kuwait, one from Germany and one from France.

The card from Finland shows various characters from Tove Jansson's Moomin books. The featured characters are Moominmamma, Little My, Moominpappa, Sniff, Snork Maiden, Moomintroll and Snufkin.
