cover from Austria with cards from the UAE

On 24th April I got a cover from Austria.

A nice stamp was used on the cover showing an artwork by Benedetto Gennari from the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. It was issued on 24th February 2021.

In the cover were four postcards from the United Arab Emirates.

The first two cards show the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was built between 1996 and 2007. With a capacity of over 40000 people, it is the largest mosque in the country and one of the largest in the World.

The second card shows among others an aerial view of the Palm Jumeirah. Palm Jumeirah is one of multiple manmade archipelagos in Dubai. When completed, the series known as Palm Islands will increase Dubai's shoreline by 520 kilometers. As of 2016 more than 10000 people lived on Palm Jumeirah.

The last card might be the most interesting, as the impressive building shown on it does not fully exists yet. It shows the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, which is a planned memorial museum for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father and first president of the United Arab Emirates. It will deal with the history, culture and economic transformation of the emirates and already has a partnership with the British Museum. No opening date was announced, but according to Wikipedia an opening was/is expected for 2021.

Thank You very much Anita!

UAE: Yas Viceroy Hotel in Abu Dhabi

Last Wednesday I got two postcards: one from the United Arab Emirates and one from Singapore.

The card from the United Arab Emirates shows the Yas Viceroy Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates and the capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Also it is the capital of the whole country. The city's rapid development and urbanisation, coupled with the massive oil and gas reserves and production, and relatively high average income of its population, have transformed it into a large and advanced metropolis. The Yas Viceroy Hotel was built across the F1 Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and is known for its very futuristic design.

UAE: Dubai Creek

On Tuesday I got four postcards: one from the United Arab Emirates, one from Kazakhstan, one from Australia and one from Austria.

The card from the United Arab Emirates shows the Dubai Creek. The Dubai Creek is a natural saltwater creek. In earlier times it was home to a wide variety of marine life. Once it was an important element in establishing the commercial position of Dubai, as it was the city's only harbour and was used for pearl diving and fishing.

UAE: EXPO 2020

On Wednesday I got eleven postcards including one from the United Arab Emirates.

The card from the United Arab Emirates was printed by the Emirates Post Group and promotes the EXPO 2020. The EXPO 2020 will be held in Dubai. Dubai becomes thus the first city in the Middle East to host the World Exposition. The theme of the EXPO 2020 will be "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future" and it will be held between the 20th October 2020 and the 10th April 2021. It will be held in the time when the United Arab Emirates celebrate their 50th anniversary of independence.

UAE: Burj Al Arab

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

The card from the United Arab Emirates shows the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. The Burj Al Arab is a 7 star hotel and the World's third tallest hotel. It was built between 1994 and 1999 on an artificial island. Its structure imitates the sail of a ship.

UAE: Burj Khalifa

I posted the first post of this blog exactly one year ago. During this first year I uploaded 250 cards, covers and stamps and more than 6000 people visited it.

The second year of this blog I want to start with a great card I got today. The card is my first card from the United Arab Emirates.

The United Arab Emirates is a country on the Arabian peninsula bordering on Oman and Saudi Arabia. The United Arab Emirates is formed by seven constituent emirates called Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The oil reserves of the United Arab Emirates are ranked as the seventh-largest in the world. The capital of the United Arab Emirates is Abu Dhabi.

The card shows the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Dubai is one of the seven Emirates forming the United Arab Emirates and also the main city of this Emirate. Dubai is the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates and also a global city.

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai and at 829,9m the highest building in the World. It was built between 2004 and 2010.

With nice stamps:

The Falconry is since 2012 an UNESCO Intangible Heritage.
