Thailand: Year of the Mouse

On Thursday I got three postcards: one from Thailand, one from Pakistan and one from Austria.

The card from Thailand is a maxicard about the Year of the Mouse. The stamp was issued on 2nd January 2020.


The card was signed during the Postcrossing Meet-up in Bangkok.

Thailand: Bangkok

On Saturday I got my first three cards of 2020: one from Thailand, one from the United Kingdom and one from Lithuania.

The card from Thailand shows Bangkok. Bangkok is the capital and largest city of Thailand. It is also an important cultural, political and economical centre and one of the most visited cities in the World.

Thailand: Jim Thompson House Museum in Bangkok

Last Thursday I got two postcards: one from Thailand and one from France.

The card from Thailand shows the Jim Thompson House Museum in Bangkok. The Jim Thompson House Museum shows the art collection of American businessman and architect Jim Thompson, who helped revitalise the Thai silk industry in the 1950s and 1960s and who disappeared mysteriously in 1967. It was designed by Jim Thompson himself and was built in 1959 as a complex combination of six traditional Thai-style houses and various old Thai structures that were collected from all parts of Thailand.

Thailand: Wat Pho

On 13th November I got five postcards: one from Thailand, one from Austria, one from Japan and two from Germany.

The card from Thailand shows the Gate Guardians of Wat Pho. Wat Pho is a first class royal temple in Bangkok's Old Town. It was rebuilt by King Rama I on an earlier temple site and was later expanded by Rama III. The temple houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand including a giant reclining Buddha. Wat Pho is also considered to have been the earliest centre for public education in Thailand and the birthplace of traditional Thai massage.

Thailand: Wat Arun

On 31st July I got three postcards: one from Thailand and two from Austria.

The card from Thailand shows Wat Arun in Bangkok. Wat Arun is a Buddhist temple. Although it existed since the 7th century, its famous spires were just built in the early 19th century during the reign of King Rama II. Today it is one of the most famous landmarks of Thailand.

Thailand: Rama X and other Maxicards

Last Wednesday I got five maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape.

The first maxicard is about Thailand's new King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, known as Rama X. Vajiralongkorn was born in 1952 as second child and only son of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit. After his father's death in 2016 he became the new King of Thailand. 
One stamp on the card is about the King's 66th birthday (issued 28-07-2018) and the other one is one of the twelve new definitive stamps (issued 28-07-2018).


The other maxicards are about the Football World Cup in Russia (issued 14-06-2018), the 135th anniversary of the Thai Postal Service (issued 04-08-2018) and the 60th anniversary of Metropolitan Electricity Authority (issued 01-08-2018).

Thailand: Maxicards

On Thursday I got three maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape, two postcards from Belgium, a postcard from the Azores and a postcard from France.

The first maxicard from Thailand is about the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations with Romania. On the card is the complete matching set that was issued on 31st May 2018.


The second maxicard is about the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations with Turkey. On the card is the complete matching set that was issued on 12th May 2018.


The third maxicard is about Vesak Day. The stamp is from a set of four and was issued on 22nd May 2018.

Thailand: Maxicards

On Thursday I got two maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape, a postcard from Japan and a postcard from Australia.

The first maxicard shows the Wat Klang Ming Muang in Roi Et. The Wat Klang Ming Muang is an ancient Buddhist temple. It is known for its murals. 

The stamp is from a set of four and was issued on 2nd April 2018 for the Thai Heritage Conservation Day. 


The second maxicard is about the Rocket Festival. The Rocket Festival is a three day long festival celebrated at the beginning of the wet season. Its highlight is the competitive firing of home-made rockets on the third day.

The stamp is from a set of four about Thai Traditional Festivals and was issued on 4th April 2018.

Thailand: Maxicards

On Wednesday I got two maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape.

The first maxicard was printed for the Year of the Dog. The stamp was issued on 1st January 2018.


The second maxicard was printed for the National Children's Day. The stamp is from a set of four and was issued on 13th January 2018.

Thailand: Mueang Boran

On Thursday I got two postcards: one from Thailand and one from Belgium.

The card from Thailand shows the Floating Market at Mueang Boran. Mueang Boran, also known as Ancient Siam or Ancient City, is an open-air museum in the Samut Prakan Province. It shows 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions, of which some are life-size replicas of existing or former sites and others are scaled down miniatures. The park has the shape of Thailand and the structures are at the correct places. It was opened in 1972 and is said to be the largest open-air museum in the World.

Thailand: Monks

On Wednesday I got two postcards: one from Thailand and one from Malaysia.

The card from Thailand shows Buddhist monks.


On the backside are special postmarks of the ASEAN Journey exhibition at the Sam Sen Nai Philatelic Museum.

Thailand: Wat Pho

On Monday I got two postcards: one from Thailand and one from Australia.

The first maxicard from Thailand shows typical Thai desserts.

The stamp is from a set of four stamps about the New Year. It was issued on 15th November 2017. 


The second maxicard shows a map of Thailand.

The stamp is about the Thai National Day and was issued on 5th December 2017.

Thailand: Maxicards

Last Wednesday I got two maxicards from Thailand which were fixed together by tape.

The first card shows the monument of King Taksin the Great in Chanthaburi. King Taksin the Great liberated Siam from Burmese occupation in 1767. The monument in Chanthaburi was unveiled in 1893.

The stamp was issued on 6th November 2017 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the restoration of Siam's independence.



The second card was printed in remembrance of the cremation of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. King Bhumibol Adulyadej was cremated on 26th October 2017, over one year after his death. The cremation was accompanied by a five-day mourning ceremony.

The stamp is from a set of thirteen and was issued on 25th October 2017.


On the backside of the card are four special postmarks about the cremation and the stamp that was used as postage:
