Finland: Sammallahdenmäki

On 16th September I got a postcard from Finland.

It shows Sammallahdenmäki. Sammallahdenmäki is a Bronze Age burial site consisting of 36 granite burial cairns. It provides a unique insight into the funerary practices and social and religious structures of Northern Europa 3000 years ago. The Bronze Age Burial Site of Sammallahdenmäki is since 1999 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

France: Mulhouse with new Asterix stamp

On 14th September I got two postcards from France.

One of them shows various views of Mulhouse. Mulhouse is the second largest city in Alsace. It is famous for its museums and as industrial town it is also known as French Manchester.

France: Colmar

On 14th September I got two postcards from France.

One of them shows various views from Colmar. Colmar is the third largest city in Alsace and is known for its well preserved city centre. It is sometimes called Capital of Alsatian Wine.

Canada: Dinosaur Provincial Park

On 13th September I got four postcards: one from Canada, one from Germany, one from the Netherlands and one from Spain.

The card from Canada shows the Dinosaur Provincial Park. The Dinosaur Provincial Park is a provincial park in Alberta. It contains some of the most important fossil discoveries ever made in the World including 58 dinosaur species. Fossils discovered in the park are shown in museums all around the globe. Since 1979 is the Dinosaur Provincial Park on the UNESCO World Heritage List.


The card is prepaid and was added with another stamp:

Spain: Úbeda

On 13th September I got four postcards: one from Spain, one from Canada, one from Germany and one from the Netherlands.

The card from Spain shows the Vázquez de Molina Square in Úbeda. Úbeda is a town in Andalusia. The current appearance of the city dates back to the Renaissance, when it benefited from extensive patronage. From here the ideas and architecture of the Renaissance went on to have a great influence in the New World. The Renaissance Monumental Ensembles of Úbeda and Baeza are since 2003 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Netherlands: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

On 13th September I got four postcards: one from the Netherlands, one from Spain, one from Canada and one from Germany.

The card from the Netherlands shows the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is a municipal museum about modern art, contemporary art and design. It was established in 1874.

Germany: Bauhaus Centenary

On 13th September I got four postcards: one from Germany, one from the Netherlands, one from Spain and one from Canada.

The card from Germany is the last of the four postcards issued by the German Post to celebrate the centenary of the Bauhaus.

France: Strasbourg

On 12th September I got a postcard from France.

It shows various views of Strasbourg. Strasbourg is the capital and largest city of the Grand Est Region. For centuries it was disputed between France and Germany and often changed between the two countries. After World War II the city became a symbol of the French-German reconciliation and the European integration. It is now home to the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament and as such it is considered to be one of the Capitals of the European Union. The Grande Île of Strasbourg is since 1988 on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in 2017 also the Neustadt was added.

Germany: Museum August Kestner

On 12th September I visited the Museum August Kestner in Hanover.

The Museum August Kestner is a cultural history museum centred on the collections of August Kestner, a German diplomat and art collector. Its collection focus on Ancient Egypt, Classical Antiquity, Numismatics and Handicraft. The museum was opened in 1889.

USA: Minnesota

On 10th September I got two postcards: one from the USA and one from Germany.

The card from the USA shows some nature views of Minnesota. Minnesota is a US State in the northern part of the country on the border with Canada. It is the 12th largest state in area and the 22nd most populous. The state has many lakes and is a centre of Scandinavian American and German American culture. Its capital is Saint Paul, while the largest city is Minneapolis.

Germany: Dackelmuseum in Passau

On 9th September I got a postcard from Germany.

It is from the Dackelmuseum in Passau. The Dackelmuseum is a unique museum about the dachshund. It was opened in 2018 and shows more than 2000 dachshund exhibits.


The card was signed during the Postcrossing Meet-up in Passau.

France: Cassel

On 7th September I got a postcard from France.

It shows various views of Cassel. Cassel is a commune in French Flanders. It is home to the Musée de Flandre, which presents the art, history and folklore of French Flanders (lower right corner). In 2018 Cassel was elected as most beautiful French village.

France: Carcassonne

On 6th September I got a postcard from France.

It shows Carcassonne. Carcassonne is a city in Southern France. It is an outstanding example of a medieval fortified city and a popular tourist destination. The Historic Fortified City of Carcassonne is since 1997 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Japan: Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum

On 4th September I got two postcards: one from Japan and one from Laos.

The card from Japan shows the Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum in Yokohama. The Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum is a museum about the writer Jiro Osaragi, who is especially known for his novel Kuramatengu. It shows his manuscripts and first edition books.

Laos: Wat Visoun in Luang Prabang

On 4th September I got two postcards: one from Laos and one from Japan.

The card from Laos shows Buddha statues at Wat Visoun in Luang Prabang. Wat Visoun was originally built in the early 16th century and represents the earliest style of Lao temple architecture. Today it is the oldest operating temple in Luang Prabang. The Town of Luang Prabang is since 1995 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Germany: Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt

On 3rd September I got a postcard from Germany.

It shows the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt. The Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt is one of the oldest and biggest museums in Germany. Beside art it shows exhibits about cultural and natural history. Important exhibits include fossils from the Messel Pit, one of the plaques from the Magdeburg Ivories and Pieter Brueghel the Elder's The Magpie on the Gallows.

Germany: Walkenried Abbey

On 29th August I was in Walkenried to visit the Walkenried Abbey.

The Walkenried Abbey was a Cistercian abbey founded in 1127. It was once one of the most important and richest Cistercian abbeys in Germany. The monks of the abbey helped to develop the Upper Harz Water Management System and also owned parts of the Mines of Rammelsberg. In 2006 an interesting Cistercian Museum was established in the Walkenried Abbey and since 2010 it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.



Germany: Museum Wiesbaden

On 28th August I got two postcards: one from Germany and one from Austria.

The card from Germany shows a painting by Adolf Hölzel from the collection of the Museum Wiesbaden. The Museum Wiesbaden is a museum about art and natural history and one of the five Hessian State Museums.

Austria: Saint Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna

On 28th August I got two postcards: one from Austria and one from Germany.

The card from Austria shows the Saint Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. The Saint Stephen's Cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna. It is one of the most important Gothic buildings in Austria and a well-known landmark of Vienna.
