Germany: Bremen

On Thursday I got eight postcards: three from Germany, one from Spain, one from Norway, one from Slovenia, one from Japan and one from Taiwan.

One of the cards from Germany shows an aerial view of Bremen. Bremen is the capital of the German State of Bremen. It is the third largest city in Northern Germany and the tenth largest in Germany. 
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Germany: Günter Grass House

On Thursday I got eight postcards: three from Germany, one from Spain, one from Norway, one from Slovenia, one from Japan and one from Taiwan.

One of the cards from Germany was printed for a special exhibition at the Günter Grass House. The Günter Grass House is a museum in Lübeck about the works of Günter Grass. The Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass lived between 1995 and his death in 2015 near Lübeck. The museum was opened in 2002.

Taiwan: Century Eggs

On Thursday I got eight postcards: one from Taiwan, three from Germany, one from Spain, one from Norway, one from Slovenia and one from Japan.

The card from Taiwan shows Century Eggs. Century Eggs are a delicacy of the Chinese Cuisine. They are made by the preservation of eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, quicklime and rice hulls for some weeks.

New Zealand: Kapiti Island

On Wednesday I got four postcards: one from New Zealand, two from Germany and one from Estonia.

The card from New Zealand shows Kapiti Island. Kapiti Island is a small island off the coast of New Zealand's North Island. It is one of New Zealand's most important sites for bird recovery and a major breeding site for sea birds.

The card from Estonia shows the modern skyline of Tallinn.

Germany: History of Husum

On Wednesday I got four postcards: two from Germany, one from Estonia and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany is the Chronicle card of Husum. Husum was first mentioned in 1252 and got the  town privileges in 1603. Between the 16th and the 18th century was Husum the most important German port and trade city on the North Sea. Theodor Storm was born in Husum in 1817 and after his death in 1888 he was buried in Husum. Because of one of his poems Husum is known as Grey City on the Sea. Today is Husum a part of Schleswig- Holstein.

Germany: Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum

On Wednesday I got four postcards: two from Germany, one from Estonia and one from New Zealand.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum. The Braunschweigiches Landesmuseum is a history museum presenting the history of the Braunschweig area. The collection of the museum is shown in four locations in and around Braunschweig. It was founded in 1891 and moved to its main location in the Viewegshaus in 1976. 
I sent the card to me after I recently visited the museum.

I visited the museum the see the special exhibition "When is a hero a hero?". It connects the history of Frederick William, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, with the question which qualities a person needs to be considered as a hero. It will be shown until October 2015. The card shows a model of a monument that was placed in Quatre Bras to honour the death of Frederick William.


I also bought a postcard of the special exhibition "Rome's Forgotten Campaign". It was shown between September 2013 and January 2014.


Italy: Verona

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Italy shows various views of Verona. Verona is a city in the Italian region of Veneto. The city is the setting of three plays by William Shakespeare including Romeo and Juliet. The City of Verona is since 2000 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Italy: Florence

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Italy shows Florence. Florence is the eight largest city of Italy and the largest of the Italian region of Tuscany, of which it is also the capital. In the Middle Ages was Florence one of the wealthiest cities in Europa and a centre for trade and finance. It is also known as birthplace of the Renaissance. Between 1865 and 1871 was Florence the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. Two famous sites on the card are the Florence Cathedral and the Uffizi Gallery, one of the oldest art museums in the World. The Historic Centre of Florence is since 1982 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 


The complete corner of the stamp got lost during the journey, but the postmark and the priority label remained.

UAE: Burj Al Arab

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

The card from the United Arab Emirates shows the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. The Burj Al Arab is a 7 star hotel and the World's third tallest hotel. It was built between 1994 and 1999 on an artificial island. Its structure imitates the sail of a ship.

Germany: Trier Imperial Baths

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Germany shows the Imperial Baths in Trier. Trier is a big city in Rhineland-Palatinate and the fourth largest city of its state. The city was founded more than 2000 years ago by the Romans and claims to be Germany's oldest city. The Trier Imperial Baths belong to the largest Roman baths north of the Alps. Since 1986 are the Imperial Baths together with other Roman Monuments, the Cathedral of St. Peter and with the Church of Our Lady on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Germany: History of Saarburg

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Germany is the Chronicle card of Saarburg. In the 10th century the Counts of Luxembourg founded a castle in today's Saarburg which was in 964 already owned by Archbishop-Electors of Trier. The castle became one of the most important of its kind in the Electorate of Trier and stayed it until the end of the electorate in 1794. The village, that was founded near the Saarburg Castle, got the town privileges in 1291. Since the 17th century Saarburg was known for the bell foundry. In 1814 became Saarburg a part of the Prussian Rhine Province.

Germany: Bochum

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Germany shows various views of Bochum. Bochum is a big city in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is Germany's sixteenth largest city. The German Mining Museum in Bochum (upper row second from left) is one of the most visited museums in Germany and the most important mining museum in the World.

Germany: Duisburg

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Germany shows various views of Duisburg. Duisburg is a big city in the Ruhr Area. It is the fifth largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the fifteenth largest in Germany. It is known for its steel industry. In the city is the World's largest inland harbour and one of Germany's largest universities.
