Germany: Christmas Post Office in Cologne

On 3rd December I got a postcard from Germany.

It shows the sign of the Christmas Post Office on one of Cologne's Christmas Markets. This Christmas Post Office offers children the chance to send letters to the Christmas Post Offices in Engelskirchen or Himmelpfort. All letters that were send before the 20th December will get an answer before Christmas. Also there is a possibility to buy special personalised charity stamps with the famous Heinzelmännchen.

On the backside is a seal of the Christmas Post Office.

France: Rouen

On 30th November I got a postcard from France.

It shows various views of Rouen. Rouen is the capital of the region of Normandy. It is located on the river Seine and was one of the largest and most prosperous European cities in the Middle Ages.

My Trip to Hildesheim

On 29th November I was in Hildesheim to see the new Voodoo special exhibition at the Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum.

After I was in the museum I also visited Hildesheim's Christmas Market, which is held on the historic marketplace between Town Hall and Knochenhaueramtshaus.

Unfortunately they did not have postcards about the special exhibition at the museum, but I still bought two other cards and got two ad-cards about the museum's 175th anniversary.

Austria: Christkindl

On 22nd November I got four postcards from Austria.

One of them shows an old view of Christkindl. Christkindl is a village in the Austrian State of Upper Austria. It is known for its pilgrimage church and Christmas post office, which answers the letters of children since 1950.

One of them shows a portrait of Emperor Charles V by Jakob Seisenegger. It is shown in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.

On 22nd November I visited the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in my home town to see their new special exhibition about Pieter Brueghel the Younger. Luckily they even had a related postcard.

Germany: Botanika in Bremen

It shows the Botanika in Bremen. The Botanika is a science centre about the nature and biological diversity. It was opened in 2003.

Thailand: Wat Pho

On 13th November I got five postcards: one from Thailand, one from Austria, one from Japan and two from Germany.

The card from Thailand shows the Gate Guardians of Wat Pho. Wat Pho is a first class royal temple in Bangkok's Old Town. It was rebuilt by King Rama I on an earlier temple site and was later expanded by Rama III. The temple houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand including a giant reclining Buddha. Wat Pho is also considered to have been the earliest centre for public education in Thailand and the birthplace of traditional Thai massage.
