Germany: European Hamster

On Tuesday I got four cards from Germany.

One of them shows a European Hamster. The European Hamster is native to big parts of Eurasia, where it is mainly found in low-lying farmland. Its relation to the human is ambivalent. On the one hand it is widely considered a farmland pest, but on the other hand it has also been trapped for its fur. It is the German Animal of the Year in 2016 and got the title already awarded in 1996.
I bought this card in my hometown.

Stamp:
Common Poppy (issued 07-07-2005)
with a special postmark showing also a European Hamster
