Germany: History of Altötting

On Friday I got three postcards: two from Germany and one from Japan.

One of the cards from Germany is the Chronicle card of Altötting. Altötting was first mentioned in 742 and in 832 a royal palace was erected there. It is considered to be the Heart of Bavaria, because of the Black Madonna and because it houses the heart reliquaries of the Bavarian electors and kings. In 1489 the pilgrimages began and today it is the most important pilgrimage site of Bavaria.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

With a matching stamp:
Shrines of Europe (issued 02-05-2016)
with a special postmark about the 20th anniversary of the Shrines of Europe

Thank You very much Christine for sending me the cards in an envelope!
