Luxembourg: Abbey of Echternach

On 2nd October I got two postcards: one from Luxembourg and one from Japan.

This is my first postcard from Germany's smallest neighbouring country in nearly four years. It shows the Abbey of Echternach. Founded in the 7th century by Saint Willibrord, it was the most powerful institution in Luxembourg in the Middle Ages. The abbey had one of the most important scriptoria in the Frankish Empire and played key roles in the Carolingian Renaissance and the Christianization in Frisia. Currently the site is pre-selected for the European Heritage Label. A decision can be awaited in early 2022.

The stamp is from a set of five about Bees (issued 08-12-2020) and on the backside the card got a cachet about the Way of Saint James.

Thank You very much Marcel!
