Austria: Der Bergdoktor

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows various filming spots of the German-Austrian television series Der Bergdoktor in Going, Söll and Ellmau. The television series Der Bergdoktor is a remake of a television series of the same name from the 1990s. It is a medical drama. It premiered in 2008 and at the moment there are 79 episodes in 8 seasons. 
I sent it from my holidays in Austria.


On the backside of the card I applied a stamp from the church in Going.

I also bought a postcard of the main character of the series, Doctor Martin Gruber. He is portrayed by the Austrian actor Hans Sigl.


Another card I bought is a single view of Going. Going is a municipality in Tyrol. Its village church is one of Tyrol's most beautiful rococo-style churches and part of the Way of St. James in Tyrol. It is one of the main filming spots of Der Bergdoktor.


Also of the Hintersteiner See I bought two cards. The Hintersteiner See is one of the clearest mountain lakes in Tyrol. It was also used as filming spot for Der Bergdoktor.


Austria: Bergiselschanze

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck. The Bergiselschanze was used for the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976. It got its current form in 2003 by the architect Zaha Hadid. In 2012 the opening ceremony of the World's first Winter Youth Olympics took place on the Bergisel. 
I bought this card on my way to Milan and sent it during my holidays in Austria.

Austria: Europe Bridge and Brenner Motorway

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows the Europe Bridge and the Brenner Motorway. The Europe Bridge was built between 1959 and 1963 and was then the highest bridge in Europe. Today it is still Europe's highest beam bridge. The Brenner Motorway was the first motorway crossing among the Alpine main chains. It connects Innsbruck in Austria and Modena in Italy and is today a major European trunk route.
I bought this card on my way to Milan and sent it during my holidays in Austria.

The stamp is printed on silver foil.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2015 was the 60th edition of the annual musical event. It took place in Vienna following Conchita Wurst's victory in 2014. The slogan of the contest was Building Bridges.


Austria: Kitzbühel and Kitzbüheler Horn

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows Kitzbühel. Kitzbühel is a city in the Austrian State of Tyrol and administrative centre of the Kitzbühel district. It is one of the most important ski resorts in Austria. 
I sent it from my holidays in Austria.

I also bought two more cards of Kitzbühel.


In Kitzbühel I started a hiking tour up to the Kitzbüheler Horn, one of the most important mountains in the Kitzbühel Alps. I bought cards of the Alpenhaus at 1670m, the Gipfelhaus at 1996m and of the Kitzbüheler Horn Transmission Tower of the ORF at the top. The cards of the Alpenhaus an Gipfelhaus have stamps of the restaurants on the backside.




Austria: Tyrol

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows various views of Tyrol. Tyrol is a region in Alps. For a long time it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but after World War I it was divided between Austria and Italy. The Austrian part forms the State of Tyrol with Innsbruck as capital city. Other important cities in the Austrian part are Imst, Kitzbühel, Kufstein, Landeck, Reutte and Schwaz in North Tyrol and Lienz in East Tyrol. In 1998 the Austrian State of Tyrol and the Italian part of Tyrol formed the Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Euroregion.

Austria: St. Johann

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows the Almfestwochen in St. Johann. St. Johann is one of the most important locations for the tourism in Tyrol. 
I sent it from my holidays in Austria.

Austria: Dorfwirt in Going

On Tuesday I got fourteen cards from Austria.

One of them shows the Dorfwirt in Going in the Austrian State of Tyrol. The Dorfwirt is a hotel opened in 1615.

Switzerland: Aletsch Glacier

One of the nine cards that arrived during my absence is from Switzerland.

It shows the Aletsch Glacier in the Canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier of the Alps. The Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch are since 2001 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
I got this card at the Swiss Pavilion of the Expo and took the chance to send it from there with an Expo stamp.

New Zealand: Mount Ngauruhoe

One of the nine cards that arrived during my absence is from New Zealand.

It shows the Mount Ngauruhoe at the Tongariro National Park. The Mount Ngauruhoe is an active volcano. During the 20th century it erupted 45 times, making it one of the most active volcanoes of this century. Its most recent eruption was in 1974. It was used as stand-in for Mount Doom in the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The Tongariro National Park is since 1990 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.


On the backside is a sticker showing a New Zealand Falcon.

Germany: History of Helgoland

Four of the nine cards that arrived during my absence are from Germany.

One of them is the Chronicle card of Helgoland. Helgoland is a red sandstone island in the North Sea with an offshore bathing dune, which was a part of the island until the 18th century. The island has a size of 0.9km² and rises up to 58m above sea level. In prehistoric times the island was a Frisian cultic site. The island was part of Denmark between 1714 and 1807 and then belonged to England. In 1890 England traded Helgoland for privileges in Africa and Helgoland became a part of Germany. The island was completely destroyed during World War II, but it was reconstructed from 1952 onwards after Great Britain returned it to Germany. Today it is used as island for cures. It is a part of the German State of Schleswig-Holstein.

Germany: Siegfried

Four of the nine cards that arrived during my absence are from Germany.

One of them shows an illustration of the opera Siegfried. Siegfried is an opera by Richard Wagner. It premiered in 1876 in Bayreuth. It is a part of the tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung. It is one of Wagner's operas that is played at the Bayreuth Festival.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

It shows an illustration of Richard Wagner's opera Parsifal. It premiered in 1882 in Bayreuth and is one of the operas that is played at the Bayreuth Festival.

Germany: The Flying Dutchman

Four of the nine cards that arrived during my absence are from Germany.

One of them shows an illustration of the opera The Flying Dutchman. The Flying Dutchman is an opera by Richard Wagner. It premiered in 1843 in Dresden. It is one of Wagner's operas that is played at the Bayreuth Festival.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.

Germany: Merseburg

Four of the nine cards that arrived during my absence are from Germany.

One of them shows the Merseburg Cathedral. Merseburg is a city in the German State of Saxony-Anhalt. It is one of the oldest cities in Central Germany. The Merseburg Cathedral was the seat of the Diocese of Merseburg until the Reformation. Its construction started in 1015 and today it is part of the Romanesque Road.
I got this card a few weeks ago in a cover.
