Austria: Villa Urbana in Carnuntum

On 21st August I got three postcards: two from Austria and one from Germany.

One of the cards from Austria shows the Villa Urbana in Carnuntum. The Villa Urbana was a splendid town house that once belonged to a rich inhabitant of Carnuntum. It was reconstructed in 2008 and shows how the elite tried to copy the standard of living of the imperial capital Rome even in the remotest part of the Roman Empire. A special feature of the Villa Urbana was an elaborate mural painting. The Archaeological Park of Carnuntum got the European Heritage Label in 2013 and also seeks for the inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

EDIT: As of July 2021 Carnuntum is now inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Danubian Limes.

Stamps:
Austrian Heraldy (from set of fourteen) (issued 01-07-2018)
Klaus Maria Brandauer (issued 20-09-2018)
with a special postmark from the philatelic shop in Graz

Thank You very much Anita!
