Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: my first card from Rwanda, one from Thailand, one from Andorra, one from Russia, three from Germany and one from Brazil.

Rwanda is a country in East Africa bordering on Uganda, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Until 1916 it was a German colony and in 1994 20% of the country's population were killed during the genocide against the Tutsi. Kigali is the capital of Rwanda.

The card shows a family of mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. The Volcanoes National Park was created in 1960, when the Albert National Park was split between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. It is a haven for the mountain gorilla and was the base for the zoologist Dian Fossey. Today it is one of the most important tourist destinations in Rwanda.

Thank You very much Mike for arranging this card for me!
